April 26, 201313 yr Commercial Member Just finished reading through it - it seems like an excellent job, very well done! I know what route I'll be flying tonight... Oh if I didn't have the rest of the work day to suffer through... hmmm *cough* *cough*... Oh I think I feel a cold coming on... Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
April 26, 201313 yr Looks to be an excellent tutorial. Just done the pre read, now doing the tutorial. Just wondering one thing. My load sheet comes up with different calculations even though Ive entered exact figures from tutorial. I.E 3 PAX 20lbs FWD 800lb AFT and 8000 T/O fuel and 4300 Trip Fuel. Clicking calculate my ZFM Index is 101 and the MAC % is 33.4% not the 25.9% in the tutorial. The only difference I see is the weight calculation from the PAX weight , being 560 instead of 496. I adjusted it to get around 25% since I think thats what we aim for anyhow, but interesting its different. CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
April 26, 201313 yr Very much enjoying the tutorial - well written, and a good read!! Could someone direct me to the point where the autopilot gets engaged...? Is it at 400 ft AGL, or some other time?? Bert

There might be some differences as the beta releases may have changed things while I was writing it- I also may have mistakenly used different weights on a different day running through the tutorial again to take pictures. Very much enjoying the tutorial - well written, and a good read!! Could someone direct me to the point where the autopilot gets engaged...? Is it at 400 ft AGL, or some other time?? At my company, procedure was to wait for 1000ft- at 400ft you're allowed to engage a navigation mode, either FMS/LNAV/VOR or HDG SEL. At 1000ft above the field- which is the acceleration altitude, the PF would call "Flaps 0, set IAS XXX, climb checklist"- and reduce the pitch to accelerate. Once established at a climb speed the autopilot could be engaged. Our limitations on autopilot usage was as follows: Minimum Engagement: 1000ft AGL Landing Flaps 0º 1000ft AGL Flaps 5-35, 200ft AGL Singe Engine: Final approach segment, autopilot must be off. April 26, 201313 yr I think you're right... If you start at Gate 2 or 3 in CYTD it should have you in the same position. The weather will probably be nicer these days however now that spring has arrived. April 26, 201313 yr I was reading it at lunchtime today: very clearly written and a good sense of humor! Couple of minor edits, couple of sentences didn't finish, but it gives me a MUCH clearer sense, for instance, of how to program the FMS than the bulkier but far more confusing (to me) PMDG NGX 737 manual.
