Blurry ground textures after camera change

Featured Replies

Hey friends,

I'm getting crazy by a problem concerning the blurry ground textures. Everytime I change the camera type the scenery is fully blurry/unloaded and need to load again. Everytime!! I can change the camera within seconds and everytime its blurred.

This only happens when I'm close to the ground like when approaching an airport. When on final flight level everything is fine.

I'm also missing that the textures not loading farther out of my view. Please check the screens below.

I tried many settings via the FS9.cfg but no solution found. Especially the blurry textures in approach making me crazy.

Actual settings:

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=900

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=90.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=0.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=200.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=2
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=4.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1

My system specs:

FS2004

no ground changing addons like Ground Evironment

Windows 7 x64

AMD FX-4100 Quad Core processor

RAM: 8GB

Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti

After a camera change:

After everything loaded:

Not sure.  Your specs are pretty close to mine, and when I upgraded my system some years ago, even with my original graphics card, which was inferior, blurries were a thing of the past with FS9.  I do have a couple of small differences in my FS9.cfg.  I keep my fps locked at 30, even though I can get better performance it's a good number for me.  And I have these additional entries/differences:

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=150
TextureMaxLoad=10

Please try those out, see if they help.

And I noticed my terrain entries are different, here they are (ignore autogen density, I often turn it off):

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=20
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=0
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=4
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

John

@John

unfortunately no change :( Still having the problem after the changing the camera or that areas in a distance of around 5-15nm looks very flat and unloaded.

But TextureMaxLoad isn't in my FS9.cfg.

@psolk

my AF settings are done via Nvidia Inspector as suggested here: http://forum.avsim.net/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&mid=274110

And there I'm using the 8xSQ settings as seen on the picture

Greetings Eddi :smile:

Try this...

TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.900000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

Did you add TextureMaxLoad?  Changing your Extended Radius and Extended Levels won't fix this issue--you're getting what we call "dynamic blurries" although they are unusual being from a view change only.  One other cause of dynamic blurries could be a rogue process that's hogging cpu time.  I am certain with your setup, you should not be having this issue.

Also did you lock your fps at 30?  Try turning off autogen also to see what happens.  You can turn it back on if you see no issues.  I am curious what might happen with it off.  Please keep us posted--I know you will find a solution.

@ :( no better result I think there is no change. Sorry to say :(

@@John

Added the entry below the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=150 line. But no real result. Below some shots with autogen off but there was also no real result as far as I could see. Frames where locked @35 now...

Made a flight from RJAA towards PANC without special landclass scenery and after passing FL100+ I noticed that the textures where loading faster and where sharp. Also after a camera change.

Is there maybe a tool to see if there is something taking CPU power? Beside FS I'm only running Active Sky Evo,IVAO and small tools like IvAe,FireFox,iTunes. But nothing big and not the whole time.

Also turning Kaspersky off brought no result.

The pictures below show me on testflight on downwind EDDF (Aerosoft) on 4000ft with Level-D B767. The paint is nothing special (no high quality etc). Scenery loaded frazs.jpg After switching Cockpit and then to outside view it looks for around 2-5s like: fra2k.jpg

There are tools in the library that stop unwanted processes while FS9/FSX is running.  The reason why I suspect something might be sapping the cpu power--I used to run FS9 on a P3-800.  I ran it for years that way, I even participated in the FS9 beta with that machine.  On my P3-800, dynamic blurries would happen sometimes like yours.  They'd also happen if I was flying above Mach 1 and sometimes would happen around cities with a lot of detail, like NYC.

I am confident you will solve your issue.  When I first set up my existing system four years ago, my graphics card wasn't as good as the one I have now.  But FS9 worked wonderfully and I have not had a dynamic blurry since.  Your specs are very close to mine--your cpu may be even a bit faster.  So I know something, other than your hardware, is the reason you're having issues.

What add-ons do you have, by the way?  Sometimes add-ons offer clues into these issues.

Regards,

John

Try this...

TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1

TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000

TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.900000

TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

LOL...I was JUST about to drop the same suggestions with your four lines in my copy buffer!  Only adding these four lines, Groovin did the trick for me. I have great in-close visuals, with a soft blend out to the horizon with the above.  Good stuff, and I suggest the O.P. use them!

@Cactus521

do you mean special programs/files in the library? I only found FS2004 Affinity Tool .

Today I installed again GE Pro 2.13 to get some better ground textures then FS standard. But it still doesn't look better and the blurries are still present (look at the picture taken @ 18000ft over EDDP)

I'm using not much addons for the FS itself. Mainly airport addons from more or less famous producers like German airports,Aerosoft, Taxi2Gate,UK2000,...

For Aircrafts I only have Level-D,PMDG,Ifly,DA Fokker,QW 757.

External Addons are only: Active Sky Evolution,Ground Environment Pro

As I said, when flying on high flight levels it mainly looks very good and no long loading is required :(

Thanks anyway to everyone :)

What I see in your last image posted is completely abnormal with your PC specifications

Some settings are bad .. or your CPU is overtaxed ...

Check with ALT  CTRL DEL how much process are running ...

Be also sure to don't have your sim folder scanned in realtime by a antivirus (normaly you have in your antivirus a option where you can set this ... exclusion list !)

Can I assume you add these line to whats all ready there as these are not there ? Thank you.

Try this...

TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.900000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

Strange...isn't it :(

I have around 55-60 processes running incl. FS2004,Active Sky but with a closed Kaspersky. CPU is changing between 3 and 40% pending of course.

Thanks...already tried and as said no change :(

56-60 procees is a lot as the 40% CPU charge ...

Seem's some of those process are demanding CPU charge

Try to stop them if they are not necessary for running you system

This what I have:

fFGOPRo.jpg

That is with FS2004 not running

Note that some applications are running in background .. they are not when FS2004 is running !

So when FS2004 run it's only 31 process running !

Does this happen anywhere in your sim, or just at a specific location?

If it happens only in a certain location - look if you have any add-on scenery close by. Sometimes some add-on scenery textures (that haven't been properly edited) can cause these types of blurries.
