May 16, 201313 yr Like many simmers I'm looking forward to the relese of FTX Global, which should be released within the next few weeks. In addition, I want to purchase FSGeneses Mesh, to get the best possible overall experience from this new addon. My question is... is there any compatibility issues combining a third party mesh with all the dozens of airports I have already installed from various devs, such as FSDT, FlyTampa, UK2000, Orbx, Earth Simulations, Eiresim and Aerosoft? Cheers fellas... May 16, 201313 yr I would like to know this as well actually, as I purchased fsgenesis ready for global. Look forward to some answers. Toby Rottner
May 16, 201313 yr Howard, I have the FS Genesis package but I only use their Central & South America package. When I had the USA mesh enabled, FSDT KLAS had an elevation issue near the main buildings. Mesh can easily be enabled and disabled when added as scenery and placed in the lower levels of the scenery library. If you're happy with what you have right now, a mesh add-on will not be as important as LC. I will wait until FTX LC is released and use FSX default LC. I have UTX, but as you know, UTX is not for the entire world and much more expensive. I'm really looking forward to the new FTX lighting system and I hope that it's compatible with other sceneries. I also hope that it lives up to the hype. JV claimed "no" fps loss. This I'll have to see to believe. MSFS

May 16, 201313 yr Generally speaking, the more detail the more workload, and will hit fps, isn't it? I wish entire FSX was at Fly Tampa's detail and very little fps hit. But, then that would be unimaginable task to accomplish.
May 16, 201313 yr I stopped using FS Genesis because of all the elevation issues with airports and roads and such. It's too bad, I don't like knowing that the default terrain elevation can be so far off but I can't stand sunken/plateaued airports or roads that rise and fall unrealistically.
May 16, 201313 yr Author I stopped using FS Genesis because of all the elevation issues with airports and roads and such. It's too bad, I don't like knowing that the default terrain elevation can be so far off but I can't stand sunken/plateaued airports or roads that rise and fall unrealistically. Sure, that's my concern also. The last time I used a third a party mesh was with NextMesh pro which gave me issues with elevation with Eiresim's Alicante. I stopped using it for this very reason. I have UTX/GEX Europe, which I understand has it's own Mesh and does not give me any problems. Sorry, can't remember which one has the mesh! So I guess I need to get a global mesh that is comparable with Gex/UTX ?? May 16, 201313 yr Commercial Member I think in general mesh can have an impact when using a variety of combinations of 3rd party airports and even a mixture of different meshes. I've used FSGenesis for years. Currently using their 10m mesh for all the USA in P3D. Sure, the higher the mesh the greater the impact on FPS and airport "anomilies" (the plateau/valley effect). KLAS is well known for it's "cliff" issues. I have FSDT, Mega City KLAS, MegaScenerey Las Vegas, my own custom photoscenerry, and few things I kit-bashed. So I have to get the priority order just right or else I'll see some weird results. Can't really blame the mesh guys as the airports issue is due to runways have to be flat causing the effect on each end of the runway. I will say Justin was going through and correcting 100's of airport elevations for his mesh which is quite an undertaking. Whether he is still doing that I do not know. I do luv my hi-res mesh, especially for the mountains, but it must be a compromise sometimes. May 16, 201313 yr If you're happy with what you have right now, a mesh add-on will not be as important as LC. You fly only in the Netherlands? I have UTX/GEX Europe, which I understand has it's own Mesh GEX is just textures (as FTX Global will be). UTX is not mesh, but landclass. So I guess I need to get a global mesh that is comparable with Gex/UTX ? Get FS-Global-2010. Excellent mesh for the whole globe.
May 17, 201313 yr Author Get FS-Global-2010. Excellent mesh for the whole globe. Thanks for the recommendation. How does it fit with all the aiports I have mentioned. In particular all the European airports by Aerosoft? May 17, 201313 yr Thanks for the recommendation. How does it fit with all the aiports I have mentioned. In particular all the European airports by Aerosoft? I have more than 100 of addon airports around the world (including dozens in Europe and/or from Aerosoft). It fits flawlessly with every single one of them. It does not only fit with Madeira LPMA, but the fix is very easy -> you only have to rename (to deactivate) once, a certain BGL file (for example to .off) in a certain FS Global directory, and then it also works flawlessly.
May 17, 201313 yr What about incorrect road elevation oscillations when used with photo scenery? I used FS Genesis with MSE and had unrealistic rises and falls on a highway near my house, totally kills the immersion, IMHO.
May 17, 201313 yr Moderator I'd still go with FSGenesis. Justin has been around the sim community for years and is always responsive to making any adjustments necessary. And to clarify - the anomalies that result after installation of FSG are due to errors in FSX itself. The data used by FSG is accurate, so if FSX has an error, you might see an elevated or sunken airport. When these were reported to Justin, they were corrected quickly. The landclass and the mesh provide the base for the textures - if that base is not accurate, then what you see may be pretty but not accurate. I can live with the occasional hole in the ground - just as I can live with an occasional CTD or stutter - it comes with the territory. Fortunately I cannot recall the last CTD with FSX and especially P3D. So, I'd go with FSGenesis hands down. If you are waiting for perfection, find another hobby! May 17, 201313 yr Justin started a new venture called TopoSim: http://www.toposim.net/ It looks like he's working on something to address the airport elevation issues. Barry Friedman
