Small documentry on a development cycle?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Someone mentioned this the other day but i can't find the thread but it's a really good idea. I wonder if PMDG would ever do a small "the making of" documentry (youtube etc) over the development of a product including the design process and testing etc. I know that a lot of people would find it really interesting and also it would allow PMDG to show some of the factors involved and how the development process cycle works and the sort of challenges you face. Not my idea but a great one i think.

You want to see a bunch of guys sitting in front of computers with a bunch of maintenance/system/repair manuals and daigrams drinking coffee?

Very interesting parts would be when the photo surveys are conducted, flight sims (Level D) are visited and sounds are recorded.

Great idea!  Even just a little "behind the scenes" look would be fabulous.

I would love it since I don't have the slightest clue as to how it's done. The fact they get everything so perfect, especially the displays is just mind boggling-amazing!

Yeah, instead make a movie with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as interns at PMDG.

This definitely cannot happen unfortunately. We hold the airline partners that help us with access to aircraft in very high regard and the vast majority of the time they don't wish to be publicly identified. Certainly is the case with the both the NGX and 777.

Ryan: I understand and agree with what you are saying. Would a shot of a gear sequence show which airline? Or a close up of the flap mechanism? I could be way off base here and if I am I apologize up front. I have the upmost respect for you and PMDG but it seems to me that even a small production like this could be some of the best advertisement you ever had.

Thanks,

Ron

Thanks, Ron Fields

I pictured a small documentary covering everything from the "secret meetings" (windowless room, no electronic devices haha) where they discuss/decide which aircraft they're going to model, all the way up through release.

Maybe not just a 20 minute shot of someone reading a manual, looking at a bunch of C++, looking back at the manual and shaking their head like "Wait. What?", but more of just a general overview.

I could even see people paying for a well-made DVD/downloadable video (ugh, but please, back it up...) of the process.

I'd love to see the process from beginning to end.

and maybe they might accidently leave a release date on one of their screens and forget to edit it out of the programme
