July 18, 201312 yr Anyone know if there's a way to 'force' FSX to look on another drive for aircraft? I've tried: SimObjectPaths.9=G:\HANGAR But this doesn't work Thanks Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
July 18, 201312 yr Hello PhilYes it can be done. QuoteSimObjectPaths.9=G:HANGAR You are missing the backslash in your path.Try this: SimObjectPaths.9=G:\HANGARNote: The directory separator "\" can differ if you use a region specific language for Windows, in some cases it can also be "/"Cheers. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
July 18, 201312 yr Author thanks Ramon, but that was just a typo in my post. What I have is: SimObjectPaths.9=G:\HANGAR but it still doesn't see them. No erro messages, FSX just doesnt see them. Will try some other names... July 18, 201312 yr How about an mkdir for just that directory? See moving fsx to new drive threads for more info..
July 18, 201312 yr Hello Phil I’m not on my FSX PC now, but I have it working, some of my add-ons and most of my AI planes are on a separate drive under E:\FSX\Aircraft and E:\FSX\AIAircraft (Incl all ORBX AI planes). I’ll paste my cfg settings later. EDIT: It can also be done using Symbolic Links mklink /J Cheers. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
July 18, 201312 yr Author Ok thanks. Will keep trying 'til I get it right. Going that route with some scenery too. July 18, 201312 yr Hi, I've installed FSX on an SSD and replicated the folder structure on C. I moved all my SimObjects other than Misc to C. I also copied "Gauges", "Effects" and "Sound" to C. I point the install program to the main FSX file on C and everything works fine. Here's the section of fsx.cfg: [Main] User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc SimObjectPaths.6=C:\FS\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes SimObjectPaths.7=C:\FS\FSX\SimObjects\Rotorcraft SimObjectPaths.8=C:\FS\FSX\SimObjects\GroundVehicles SimObjectPaths.9=C:\FS\FSX\SimObjects\Boats HideMenuNormal=0 HideMenuFullscreen=1 Maximized=1 Location=468,222,1508,1000,\\.\DISPLAY1 ProcSpeed=9351 PerfBucket=7 No quote marks though. July 18, 201312 yr Author Here's another question... With addon scenery, I can only move some and not all of it. Would moving photo scenery, or ORBX scenery to the SSD give more relief to FSX? Which is the slower to load from disk and so the best to move? Thanks for help guys Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

July 18, 201312 yr Here is mine. Just tested and works fine with or without the quotes. It can be done, but one must use Symbolic Links using mklink /J(Operating System uses that all the time and most apps work just fine unless they validate actual physical paths for some purpose, pointless programming though)Cheers. July 19, 201312 yr Hey Joe, I initially just created new FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes & Rotorcraft folders. The aircraft loaded okay but none of the default gauges appeared. When I thought about it my hunch was the paths were relative when the aircraft loaded (into RAM). That's when I COPIED the Gauges and Effects folders to C, duplicating the FSX directory structure. I then had no sound from an aircraft and copied the Sound folder. All seems to be working now. Also, when I used an installer the new files were put in the right relative locations. I also added Gauge trust statements to point to the new locations but even before I did this FSX didn't ask if the gauges were to be trusted. I'm winging this as I go along but everything seems to be going okay. Jim F. Hi again, I forgot to add that I copied the Scenery\Global folder also. I had black textures on an AI carrier that had one of those texture foldback trees. Jim F.
