July 26, 201312 yr Moderator Started out wanting a dumbphone, but all of the apps hooked me into an Android instead. Currently own a Droid X and am very happy with it. Went with a month to month Data plan from Verizon because I bought my phone on Craigslist. Then I'm not stuck with all of the obligatory crap they make you get with a Contract, and with WiFi at home if I need to connect I can. I also have a Tablet, so the phone is more for when I'm out and about. Those Galaxy S4's are pretty cool, though. All my friends have the McPhone, but that ain't me. B)
July 26, 201312 yr Author I'm testing out a 4.0 Android now. Its ok. Has lots of nice features for shock and awe but getting actual work done on it is not nearly as efficient as my Blackberry with thumbpad.
July 26, 201312 yr All I want is a phone. I need to text sometimes, but I don't need a web browser or a GPS or a way to keep up with the Kardashians. If I'm home or at work, I've got a full-sized computer screen, and if I'm not home I don't want a computer. It's getting harder and harder to find one. The Pantech I got when my Samsung wore out after 5 or 6 years of faithful service isn't as good as the Samsung. The providers are pushing everyone to get Smartphones so they can gouge them for data plans. Next best option: get a cheap smart phone and just don't buy a data plan John-Alan Pascoe
July 26, 201312 yr Author Data plans are such a racket. You should only pay for what you use. They can more easily measure it than a power meter at on ones home.
July 27, 201312 yr Moderator Net10 Sent from my Apple communications device. Oh yeah! What about TracFone?
July 27, 201312 yr Oh yeah! What about TracFone? No, Net10!! I have had mine for a good while through them and I really have no one to call. So it's gotten to the point where they can't add my monthly 200 minutes because the phone won't register above 4,000 available minutes. Anyone want to chat for a few hours?
July 27, 201312 yr Moderator I have a TracFone account set up for my brother, and it works quite well for local calls; perfect for someone who just wants a cell for emergencies.
July 27, 201312 yr You can always get Assurance Wireless... Although your profile doesn't say where you're from, from the replies, I'm guessing you live in the US. I recommend T-Mobile... The plans are incredibly cheap ($50 a month gets you unlimited talking, texting, and data (500MB of high speed)), and the phone lineup is great. You can even bring your own phone to it, so you can get a phone off Craigslist then put it on their network. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
July 28, 201312 yr Author Well I don't know and still can't decide. Boils down to this.... I absolutely love my current QWERTY Blackberry. It is soooo super efficient in absolutely everything it does, UI can't get any better IMO. But the apps and features available on the popular slab of glass phones offers LOTS of conveniences.
July 29, 201312 yr Of you like the qwerty layout and think you could go for Android, check these out http://m.ibnlive.com/photogallery/6552.html Sent from my GT-P5110 using Tapatalk 4 Beta Louise London, UK

All those phones are running Android 2.x. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
July 29, 201312 yr If keyboard is a big deal, I would strongly recommend downloading Swype on a touch screen keyboard and trying it out. I feel that it is much faster than pecking away at physical keys or a non QWERTY layout on a touch screen.
July 29, 201312 yr Moderator VeryBumpy, I'm surmising you like the 'feel' of the physical QWERTY buttons on tyour current phone, so a touch screen keyboard whether it's Swype or the Default might take some getting used to, but it's not too bad. There are quite a few keyboard apps out there. Have you looked at the z10 yet? A good friend called me this morning; his smartphone went south, and wanted my recommendation for a new phone. He has T-Mobile, so I suggested the S4.
