Featured Replies

Hi,

For some reason my Scansim EKCH will not show correct at night anymore in DX10 after a uninstall of GEX (preparing for the FTX Global) so i ran the setup 3.2.2. again but it does not work for me. I have the pink main buildings again and gates.

Can anyone test Scansim EKCH at night to see if i am mistaken my memory ? . Hmm these pink buildings were gone i think

Thanks

How exactly did you uninstall GEX?

ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU

My understanding is that you should have removed GEX by using the GEX uninstall tool - it would have restored your original textures.

only if he wanted the original textures back.  uninstalling with the add/remove programs tool only removes the GEX program files, not the files that are stored within FSX.  I would doubt that the GEX uninstallation has anything to do with the issue.  I would check  that ftx central is set to "default" and check if it was set to default when you installed the other scenery (or reinstalled it)  you always want to make sure FTX is set to default when doing anything with third party sceneries. (wouldn't have been an issue with your GEX uninstall though, unless you ran the Gex configuration tool as well)

GEX replaces your default textures with better performing and optimized textures.  It saves all of your default textures if you requested they be backed up.  You have to run GEX and return your textures back to the default first then uninstall GEX.  Here's what it states in the manual:

"If you wish to uninstall one or more Ground Environment X regions from Windows and your interface, launch the Ground

Environment X interface and select the GEX regions (one by one) you wish to uninstall by placing a bullet in the region selection

and then click the DISABLE button. Repeat this process for any additional GEX regions you wish to uninstall from Windows.

Once complete, close the GEX interface. In Windows go to Control Panel - Programs and Features in Windows7 / Vista, or, Add

and Remove Programs in WindowsXP – Find the matching Ground Environment X region(s) you wish to uninstall in the list, then

click to uninstall from Windows."

Best regards,

Jim

Sure.

I agree that's what it says in the GEX manual.  That doesn't mean that that's what you have to do.  In my case, I never want to see the default FSX textures ever, ever again,  so I installed FTXG right over top of my GEX installation, insuring that it's the GEX files that I have in my backup, and not default FSX.  that way if I want to flip back to GEX for some reason, I don't have to reinstall every single region of GEX, I just need to restore the backup.  I did uninstall the GEX program files.  between the 4 GEX regions I had, and the original FSX backup, it was 18.5GB.

Jim,

Was wondering if I will have a problem.  Unfortunately I installed FTXG and did not remove GEX. (it pays to read the manual).   So far as I can tell I have not seen any problems with  installing FTXG over GEX.  Should I go ahead an uninstall GEX?  So far FTXG has been just fine with my low powered machine.

Thanks,

Carl
