Some GEX - FTX Global comparisons

Featured Replies

To begin with if you own the GEX product and you are happy with it,  I think it is a waste of money spending $91 to upgrade.  But if you never had the GEX in the first place then I guess it is good to go for the FTXG.

Paid with a credit card?...You can always fight the charges if what you purchased is not what you expected.

Yes, paid with a credit card and you don't have to fight the charges...you simply ask for a refund with no questions asked.

OK, so I now have the installation file on my disk but think I'll save this cookie for tomorrow.

A question, I guess before I install FTXG I should uninstall GEX and disable the night lightning in UTX...are there any other things I should do or be aware of?

Not really seeing that.

FTXG's city tiles are much, much clearer and the desert tiles have a much less grainy look and more natural coloring.

What gives the impression of looking better is we assume that Mogadishu should be a blank desert with dusty roads. It's not.

Looking at pictures of Mogadishu, it seems the deep green mixed in with the desert is actually realistic and the city having green tress is as well.

Bit grainy but it's one of the view that showed the north part of the city.

That may be so but the city and streets and building in the GEX screen shot look a hell of a lot more realistic to me. The FTX city and streets and buildings look fake.

If overly saturated and blurry = more realistic, then ok. To each his own. Global certainly doesn't look great in this setting but I'd prefer the more sharp clear textures to what GEX shows.

Yes, disable the UTX custom landclass setting.

If you don't you'll get UTX textures at night and they look terrible mixed in with the dark, 3d lit Global textures.

This is not UTX's main landclass files. It's just a few things like dock yards and some custom industrial textures (that look much like the non-custom industrial textures). You won't miss it in comparison to what you gain.

What features should we disable on UTX other than the night lighting?

Edit: Did not read the post above

Edit: So we should disable all Landclass (vegetative, urban area, and custom) as well as all of the "Other Terrain Features"?

Anything else?

No, just the custom layer because it has custom textures. Don't do the rest. You want it.

OK, so first uninstall GEX and then disable lightning and custom landclass layer in UTX. This is very good info so thanks for sharing!

Is this information available somewhere or maybe this info shows up during the installation of FTXG?

"If you want cities to look right at night you have too. Otherwise you get custom landclass textures that don't blend at all. "

Can you tell me the exact entries to be shut down ? thanks
