July 28, 201312 yr Well, as happy as I am about FTX Global and the promised openLC packs, I'm once again astonished at the level of arrogance and almost thug-like behavior displayed by John Venema over at ORBX. This guy Noel posted a criticism regarding the overly green "desert" textures in the US southwest and elsewhere over on the ORBX forums. Although I agree that his post is a bit too harsh, it does indeed have some merit. Well, after being criticised himself by multiple ORBX fans for his criticism, JV essentially tells him that there's nothing wrong with FTX Global and he'll just have to wait for the openLC products to correct the problem (I thought there was nothing worng with it?). Then, JV says that ORBX just won't tolerate the whining and insulting tone of the post, threatens to ban the OP, and locks the thread. He also locked another thread about the same too-green textures problem. So, here's ORBX customer service: there's nothing wrong with our $90 product and if you dare to criticize it then we'll threaten to ban you from posting in our forums. Furthermore, you'll have to purchase our follow-on products to fix what you call a problem in our current product, even though we promised future upgrades, patches, and fixes to our current product. July 28, 201312 yr I love ORBX products but i'm not a fan of JV. It's like Microsoft, I love Win8, FS9/FSX, Xbox, etc. but i'm not too happy with the CEO StevieB
July 28, 201312 yr This nothing new, he's been doing it for years. If people truly have an issue with it, they should 'vote' with their wallet, not give him 90 AUD and then expect his responses to magically change. Luke Harvest
July 28, 201312 yr JV essentially tells him that there's nothing wrong with FTX Global and he'll just have to wait for the openLC products to correct the problem (I thought there was nothing worng with it?). Well, he's right. The problem isn't with FTX Global. FTX Global is a replacement texture set. Nothing more. The problem in areas like the southwest has to do with the FSX landclass and its placement of the various textures. So, yes, we'll have to wait for OpenLC to "fix" this. But it's not FTX Global that's being fixed, it's FSX. Though JV may need a refresher course in customer service, he is right to defend FTX Global. Your criticism is unfair and uninformed.

How is it, then, that when using default or GEX textures the Southwest U.S. desert textures are more realistic? FTX Global changed a texture that is supposed to have a more brown-orange-red color. The landclass hasn't changed here, the textures did. So how can you conclude that it's a landclass problem? You are the one who is uninformed. July 28, 201312 yr I think the thing here is everyone is entitled to their oppinion weather that is positive or negitive. I dont see how someone can judge an area is correct or not unless the have the correct data or live there. If someone points out that something is not correct they 1. Should not be diss-respected for their view or oppinion. 2. They should point issues out in the correct tone so as not to be taken out of context. I am no fan of ORBX's sometimes arrogant attitude and im warming to their products. FTX Global is a massive undertaking and all in all (from what ive seen so far) they have done a reasonable job, is it perfect? No.. Is it totally rubbish? No. Is it good value? ... Id say yes against GEX and alike. Im sure ORBX's position in the market place would be placed so much higher if their public voices spoke and treated their customers in the correct way ... With respect and respected their opinion even if it does not agree with ORBX's point of view ... Having said that we all must point out our issues to them with respest also. ORBX ... Please respect peoples oppinions both good and bad. ORBX's customers ... Please be respectful. Anyway enough of peace and love ... Im off to kick next doors dog LOL. Rich

The forum masters have a right to do as they please in their own space. I personally would stick to the AVSIM unofficial forums - its a more friendly place Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
July 28, 201312 yr How is it, then, that when using default or GEX textures the Southwest U.S. desert textures are more realistic? Easy. FSX landclass is using green textures in a place that should be using brown textures. The only thing that makes it look more "realistic" compared to FTX Global is the fact that FSX's greens are muted. That's why forrests look terrible with the default textures. That's also why, until the OpenLC comes out, I'll stick with my photoscenery in the southwest so that I can see deserts again.
July 28, 201312 yr It just results from people not reading what FTX Global is. There are still people over there saying it didn't make their hometown correct. It's textures. Like a paint scheme on a plane. It doesn't change the plane. Just the color/texture. The post was retarded. So was the answer. They fit well together. Sent from my Apple communications device. July 28, 201312 yr This issue is not an ORBX Issue. They have promised a LC specific to the area that would take care of the issue.. and this issue was due to how FSX works, So why the whining? Just wait for the LC. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 28, 201312 yr I didn't think He was arrogant - He is aware of the problem said They are going to address it and in His mind that's the end of the story - He will make good on His word, that's how I see it. Just my 2 cents. Rich Sennett
July 28, 201312 yr Sometimes though, you can't make people happy. That's why god invented the "lock" button. Sent from my Apple communications device. William Sequeira
July 28, 201312 yr Author I'll say this and be done with it because there's more to celebrate regarding FSX than there is to complain about: I didn't think J.V.'s response was appropriate. He basically told the OP to shut up and wait for openLC to come out to fix the issue. He could have been more diplomatic about it since, you know, the guy is a customer and spent his money to buy the product. Having said that, the OP could also have been more respectful and refrained from "shouting" and using words like "abomination". OK, back to flying! July 28, 201312 yr Agreed. I'm happy and that is all thy really matters to me. And Richard, all is good on my end. Hope you are having a good one also. Sent from my Apple communications device. William Sequeira
