PMDG 747 - Best Engine Sounds

Featured Replies

I think the PMDG B747 has the best engine sounds compared to any other plane in my hangar (except maybe the SimCheck A300B4.) I really love these two planes just because of how spectacular they sound and feel taking off.

What addons have powerful sound immersion for you?

FSX: PMDG 744/MD11/JS41/736/737/738/739, CS752/753/763/C130, SimCheck A300, Leonardo MD82, MJC DH8D, Aerosoft CRJ7/CRJ9/A318/A319/A320/A321, RAZBAM Metroliner, ORBX Global, FlyTampa KBUF/OMDB/TNCM/VHHX, ActiveSky Next

DCS: A-10C II/F-16C/AH-64D/F-15E/KA-50 III/Mi-24/Persian Gulf/Syria/F-15C

XP11: FF 752/753, iniBuilds A306, HotStart TBM900

MSFS: Fenix A320, FS2Crew Fenix A320, FS2Crew Pushback Express, PMDG B77W, ActiveSky FS, Drzewiecki Design UUEE

NGX is nice.. I especially love the sound in the cockpit when turning the batteries on.

Aerosoft Airbus is pretty sweet aswell with the additional sound enhancement pack by Steve (available through the support portal @ Aerosoft).

But going from the preview videos of the PMDG T7, those might GE90's are going to take over every product as the sexiest sounding bird in my FS hangar. That spool sound is just excellent.

My vote is for MD11 startup. Crank your sub on that , and the neighbors duck for cover thinking its an earthquake.

I love that rumble!

My favorite FS sounds are from the A2A P-40 and P-51.  Love those deep rich V-12 sounds from the Allison and Merlin respectively.  The Allison is a little 'throatier'.  These engines have sort of a 'moan' to them that is kind of intoxicating LOL

Hard to beat these warbirds for sound B)

Listen to the P-40's great throaty roar on takeoff :)  The R-1830 on the Zero is quite nice too.

I suppose as far as the PMDG tubes go, I would have to go with the 747, probably replaced with the 777....both of those will for sure be replaced as a favorite sound when the DC-6 comes out.  Four R2800s rumbling....yeehaa

Also really looking forward to the A2A F-104 and listening to the Zipper's 'howl'

Cheers

Agreed. I can't possibly wait any longer!

Funny you say that Dave.  Several months back in a hotel room at the time, I was cranking up the big MD-11 Pratt & Whitney's (love my subwoofer BTW) when there was a knock at the door.  A couple of maintenance guys walking by couldn't figure out what the sound was so they stopped by to check.  Much to their surprise it was just me firing up my plane.  I decided to turn the volume down a bit after that.

HAHA  yea thats what im talking about alright. I remember it from pushing back the DC10s and I think it and the MD11 are the only ones to have such a low rumble at startup. Quite unique. Nothing to take away from the 777 and 747 as they are cool, but the MD11s sound goes through you at startup, especially wing walking .

I think the PMDG 747 sounds great too. But one think that I don't like about PMDG sounds, including the NGX, is that there really isn't much bass/rumble/ear-thrashing from the back of the engines in the external view. The engine sounds themselves though are extremely accurate, right down to the pitch of the whine! ;)

I love the MJC Q400 sounds, it's great! The CS 777 is ok, but it's just a mush of the 3 T7 engines in one soundpack. If you've listened to it, it's the PW4000-112 idle sounds, the Trent 800 whine and the GE90 high power growl. It's not that accurate, but it does sound nice.

Has anybody heard the Milviz 737. It's incredible! It's the first payware aircraft ever that I haven't had to go enter the sound.cfg to improve it (in my opinion obviously).

I was drooling over the PMDG 777 videos on youtube, I can't tell you the amount of times I've replayed them over and over just to hear those GE90's!

Thanks for the comments chaps, its been an evolution from the 747 to the MD11, then the NGX and now the 777LR, the latest one is on a different level in my opinion, it is a massive evolution in functionality and audio experience compared to even the NGX.

Just on the engines alone there have been a number of new features implemented not seen on the earlier PMDG aircraft. For one, the bass frequencies have been boosted quite a bit compared to the NGX, both inside and outside. The subwoofer guys are gonna have more neighbour complaints than before!!!

Most sounds are multi layered, each sound type has between 2 and 5 layers of blended sounds complementing the core sound, allowing for fuller, thicker and more authentic characteristic sounds. Also, these layers transition dynamically across its particular N1 range, so the blend and character changes as you move the throttle from one power setting to another. For example, the buzz saw sound at 100% N1 is bright and gritty while at 90% it is smoother and with more mids and bass frequencies.

And the outside view sound cones contain so many layers that you get a full 360 walkaround sound experience, and as a result, for the first time all the cabin views have sounds which come close to the real thing.

I could go on all day... there are a lot more new things to talk about!!!!!

Aw jeez! Now you've gotten me over excited Armen!

This sounds like an amazing piece of audio architecture!

Perfect bass, perfect buzz saw = perfection :)

I really can't wait for this plane now ;)

It shows the work that PMDG have done in this area. I used to scour the freeware and payware options for third party sound sets. There are some great ones out there for 767, 747 etc (TSS are the best IMO) Anyway since the MD11 and NGX I have never even thought of going after other sound sets. Triple7 will be the same I would say.
