August 21, 201312 yr To be frank, I wouldn't give up what you currently have to go work for the airlines right now. These days the green-horns are a dime a dozen and get paid / treated accordingly. Certainly, the senior guys have it much better but these days you have to go through years of "thick crud" to get up there. Why not start in a career that treats you well and pays you well from the start? There are many industries out there that do so, unfortunately the airline industry is not one of them. All the best ^_^ Sean Franklin
August 21, 201312 yr Pretty much sums it up 4T7. The only barely visible gleaming ray of light is the fact that there will not be enough pilots 20 years from now here in the US. Supply and demand doesn't always result in higher pay, but it could start becoming better within the next 10 years. It is a hard way to make a couple bucks. 16 hour duty days get old very quickly and the constant fear of failed line checks or medical exams add to the stress. Looking back, I really should have considered a career which is more stable and kept flying a hobby.
August 21, 201312 yr Commercial Member Nothing is as bad as Aerosoft used to be: Though we should remember Aeroflot wasn't that bad in Soviet times, only after Soviet Union collapsed things went really bad for a while.
