August 13, 201312 yr OK GUYS THIS TOPIC HEATED UP IN A DAY wow. ok, lets get defensive (lol) stanstead airport is called LONDON stanstead so it should be near london and gatwick is not very busy so they could redirect unwanted heathrow airlines their...right? From a statistic I read not long ago, Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport in the world! Not really alot of space to divert traffic there lol. Jaime Boyle
August 13, 201312 yr No - Stansted is not nearer Scotland than London wherever you start. Temper, temper, now!!! Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
August 13, 201312 yr Temper, temper, now!!! Nice attempt to divert attention from the fact that your original statement was completely wrong. Gerry Howard
August 13, 201312 yr Heathrow is listed as the 3rd busiest airport in the world, of course it needs another runway. ORD which is now behind LHR has 7. Boston which isn't even on the top 30 has 5 usable runways. It's amazing that LHR has gotten away with only 2 for so long!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

August 13, 201312 yr We have a similar problem in rural areas: people move in expecting the countryside to be quiet because the estate agent told them it's peaceful, then campaign to have children banned from playgrounds, church bells silenced and a curfew on the use of agricultural machinery. If that's all the settlers do, you're lucky. We have the issue of people from urbanized, tax-'em-like-mad Massachusetts who move to New Hampshire to get away from the income tax and sales tax, and then they want the same "services," i.e., Big Government, that they left Massachusetts to avoid paying for. As for Heathrow, it's not just a destination, it's an important transfer point. You want your connection in London to at least be in one airport even if it can't be in the same terminal. When you start splitting the traffic between two nearby hubs, that becomes much more awkward.
August 13, 201312 yr If you have the real estate, build as many runways as you want if you can afford to maintain them. The cannot use more than 2 or 3 at the same time. 2 sets of 2 parallel rwys is more than enough. I think they did that to reduce crosswind landings. They don't call Chicago the windy city for nothing!!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
