I'm in the process of making the files available at Flightsim.com now, finally. Needed to make a couple of extra readmes regarding how to use AoN with default textures, GEX or P3D...because the landclass I use with FTX Global look heavenly, but with default, it looks like someone nuked Finnmark, LOL ...

can´t find the aon 3,5 and photopack in the first link :( where are the files ?

found the files on flightsim.com

 

but download speed is beyond stupid... 8 hours for the photopack ? are we in 1998 or what

I don't think the files are there anymore, everything is located on flightsim.com from now on:-)

The Airports of Norway and the mandatory photopack can be found from now on on Flightsim.com. You will need to register for that site in order to download the files. The Norway bridges are still available using the link in the OP (together with a new photoreal airport).

Downloadspeeds are quite slow, unfortunately, as derfsxpilot already posted. I did a test and with the fastest downloadspeeds I could get it would have taken me almost 4 hours to download the photoreal pack... Pity the files aren't also available on the Skydrive link. Anyway, it IS worth the wait... ^_^

After my dissapointment with FTX Scotland I think Norway freeware + FTX Global will be my preferred setup. I have a lot of custom scenery made for Northern Norway that I will try to find the time to complete now that FTX Global is out.

+1 As I posted elsewhere I really doubt if the upcoming FTX Norway South will be better than the freeware plus FTX Global (and UTX Europe). I hope it is because things aren't perfect yet, but Norway simply looks awesome as it is now! This weekend I installed FTX England (don't own Scotland) but within no time I was back to Norway which looks so much better in EVERY regard! (I even uninstalled England again...)

Yep, unless FTX Norway is close to FTX North America in quality I'll pass. I've just done a reinstall of everything and I'll wait for FS Global vectors before I decide if UTX is going into my flight sim history folder.

 

For those still flying FS2004, the Norway freeware for FS2004 is also superb. There are even custom landclass textures with a texture switcher (made long before FTX Central came into play) so you can revert back to default, but I can assure you, you won't. I still fly FS2004 with the Aeroworx King Air in Norwegian Air Ambulance livery. Here's a video of Norway in FS2004:

Currently I use old Norway Scenic files (incorporated in NSX II, as described in my readme files). It makes things good, but will not reach new and updated landclass to the socks.

 

Norway Scenic used old data. UTEX used old and cheap data. None of these data represent Norway like it is. If FTX do their stuff right (including FTX Vectors), you (and me) are in for a huge transformation.

 

And I will happily leave both GEX (already pensioned for a couple of years), and UTEX, without ever  looking back.

Yep Andrew, current landclass is severly lacking. I've made custom LC and other scenery elements for Ofoten, Salten, Lofoten and Vesterålen to cope for now.

 

I sure hope ORBX will get hold of some good data. The problem with Norway is that rural settlements doesn't always conform well to the LC grid. Most villages are long and narrow clinging towards a road or squeezing  between mountains and ocean on a thin band of land. What will be needed is as you say good vector data like they automated in FinlandX. The default LC grid is useless for coastal Norway.

 

I'm currently flying around FTX EU Scotland and I sure hope Norway will be in a different league.

Good news for Norway. Gouvernmental map data will be public domain and can be freely used for flight simulator scenery. That means among other things free 10m mesh if someone cares to do the work.

And finally we can explore the full potential of FSX, since it is WGS 84 now. Which my Photopack1 shows.

 

Norway Quality Mesh (so far unsurpassed 25m data), may get an even better resolution. We are testing this as we speak. But for me, new landclass is the issue. Northern Norway still looks like from another planet, and it is that part that foremost needs fixing.

Slow! Fully agree. Maybe I picked the wrong day but it has taken nearly 6hrs *yawn* not complaining. I've just finished installing it and did a quick test flight at ENGM (okay, I admit its my first time in Norway) so need to do some research as to where to go

 

Impressive amount of work has gone into this, so any sight seeing pointers greatly appreciated.

Any of the NAX or SAS flights that fly throughout Norway are a great place to start, that's what I've been doing for the past few weeks.

 

I would also recomend getting Svalbard (ENSB) by Will Kotheimer, available at the flightsim.com library, an unusual destination from either Oslo or Tromso.

 

Bergen is served by BAW from London or KLM from Amsterdam, they're nice flights also.
