2D Cockpit.?

@Kyle
Not exactly sure what your pictures mean but I gues it is along the lines of the merrygoround.

Merry go round mention #2 to illustrate the round and round, same argument as the last 500 "OMG 2D PLZ" posts, and then there's a funny picture with some dude eating popcorn, watching the merry go round of ridiculousness.

Well said - apparently there is, since this topic keeps coming up... I remember it with the PMDG 737NGX and the Airbus X (and Extended)

I'm not sure that's quite a valid argument.  I could argue until I'm blue in the face that BA should bring Concorde back, but there's honestly no point...

Hehe... well - can't really argue with that!  ^_^

Expressing opinions and posting pictures of merry go rounds are equal posts. PMDG has stated no more 2d panels. Not much left to discuss.

Wrong!

Are you guys even reading previous posts??

Ther ARE 2D panels, you have no idea of what you are talking about.

I think the merrygorounds are actually for you guys!

And at Kyle:

So what kind of setup do you have Kyle?

One monitor or multiple?

What do you use for a circle to land where you have to look both inside and outside at the same time?

Maybe a software addon like EZdok?

I tried an App called "Airtrack App" in combo with the 727 I have, but found it too small and it misses engine parameters :-(

One monitor - I don't do the half-cockpit thing with multiple monitors.  Just makes no sense to me.  If I want the cockpit feel of looking somewhere and clicking/touching something, I'll actually go buy hardware.

If I need to look around, I either hat, or space/mouse.  Pretty rudimentary, but it does the job just fine.

I tried 2 monitors once. One with FSX, the other with Jeppview, FSinn etc.

Still prefer my iPad with JeppFD and FSX on one monitor rather than the two.

Only thing I liked with two monitors was when controlling. Extremely handy to have my ENR sector up on one, and a SMGCS (or ASDE-X) and electronic flight strip bays on the other. Trying to get as close as I can to this I guess...lol (ooooh TAAATS is so much easier on the eyes compared to STARS/ARTS :P ).

Agreed.

False!

...well...true in that brightly lit room you have there.  In the darkened TRACONs over here: false. STARS takes the cake.  So much better.

I assume you're joking. If not, I think youre thinking of pop ups

No yoke!

Did you read which 2D pop ups are avaiable. Quite a few.

Definately more than zero!

I have tried that of course.

But back and forth and back and forth between inside and right outside view through the VC window (right hand circling pattern) just drives me crazy.

A gauge in a 2D window is not the same as a complete panel in 2D.

The Aerosoft Airbus does not have 2D panels (there's exactly one 2D MCDU - a gauge in a 2D window -, though).

The NGX still had tons of 2D panels!!!   :yahoo:

What happened to AVSIM

i'm going to back away slowly.....I have no idea whats going on here anymore....

This is a honest question because I never flew with a Multi monitor setup so,

What do you need to be looking for constantly inside or outside the cockpit in such an approach in the B777? I understand that drives you crazy though.

If I understand this correctly, the view outside on your top monitor rotates, while the instruments on the bottom monitor stay in place? I'd hardly call that realistic, unless you're flying one of those brand spanking new, multi million dollar fighter jets.

I need to see where I am turning to.

In a real airplane you look out the window on your turn from downwind to final and look for the runway to appear again. You then adjust bank (rate of turn) so you end up on the extended centerline on short final without over- or undershooting.

You also visualy imagine that correct 3 degrees descend path to the runway threshold and adjust vertical speed accordingly (which is possible only when zoom is set to 1.0 and you see nothing other than the windscreen. try it!)

At the same time you need to look at your airspeed and engine parameters so you dont stall or get too fast for the flaps you are using.

At zoom 1.0 you see no instruments at all once you are looking through the fwd windscreen.

So you need a second monitor.

Ok the 777 actually has a little sheet mode called the trend vector on the ND.

So you could actually do without any outside looking on the 777.

But I like to do it the old fashioned way. It is more fun to me.

Besides what when the PMDG DC6 comes out?

It does not have the trend vector so its back to the basics.

Just the way I like it :-)

But without 2D flight and engine instruments on a second monitor.......no no for me.....:-(

Huh?

I dont understand that.

My top monitor is a 46" TV and does not move around.

Thank you. I was just interested.
