August 31, 201312 yr Hello Friends, I do not understand this...During the day, everything is perfect, all the textures (ground and clouds) are all perfect. At dusk they are perfect, at dawn they are perfect...Why is it at night everything is really, really bad...FSX is unflyable. This is driving me nuts. First of all, are guys experiencing the same ? Anyone here is able to help me or suggest something ? This is driving me insane, especially when the T777 comes out....PLEASE HELP. I am using an AOC 27", GTX 580, i7 2600k OVC 4.6ghz, ORBX global, NGX, SweetFX, REX Thanks, Regis Regis Biassala
August 31, 201312 yr I noticed this also when using SHADE for fsx. It would make my clouds light up at night when I flew through them. I don't know if there is a fix for this but I haven't found it. I stopped using SHADE because of this issue. I think Sweetfx is basically the same thing because it changes the shaders in fsx. Looking forward to some insight on this issue. August 31, 201312 yr Here is what I get during the night flying, weird lines across the dark parts of the screen. Doesn't happen during the day, dusk, dawn nor anywhere else in games like Skyrim, Crysis 2, Withcer 2.... August 31, 201312 yr I don't get big lines like that. I just get a real bright screen when going through clouds. It is sort of like looking through a FLIR sensor. Weird but only get it with SHADE. Anthony Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHZ, 32 GB ram, win 11, gtx 4070 Super
August 31, 201312 yr I'm sorry. I don't see the problem. I can see clouds outside at night around my house when the moon is out. I thought that was a normal happening. What clouds are you using? REX? Orbx? Default? I also have Shade but have never seen this real bright screen when going through the clouds. Perhaps it is because I do not turn on Shade at night and do not fly much at night time. I do like to fly at Dawn or Dusk though. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 31, 201312 yr Okay, just did a test flight at night and saw nothing wrong with my clouds. I turned on Shade and flew through the clouds and did not experience any real bright screen. However, if you have your strobes turned on while flying through a cloud, it should light it up. I know that if you fly into fog, it is very difficult to fly manually as the strobes and the landing lights are very bright. It's not as bad as the default clouds though. I flew a test flight around KDCA around 10 pm and I could barely see the clouds. I did not see a moon either. Just stars and clouds. So I think it is the moon that's brightening things up for the OP and strobes or aircraft lights that cause the bright screen when flying through clouds. You also have SweetFX and that alone could be causing you the problems you are seeing. If you have that enabled, it's not fair to the developers of REX, Orbx, etc. as their products are probably not completely compatible. August 31, 201312 yr Thanks Jim for the replies. I am using rex clouds, and to elaborate a little more when I go through the clouds it is like I'm in fog that it lights up very bright, not from lights. I will keep trying different shade settings and see if that is the problem. I don'[t really use it that often but when I saw this thread I thought what the heck maybe someone knows whats wrong. August 31, 201312 yr This looks like a monitor calibration issue, since the image looks fine on my browser (the water/river's reflection of starlight looks a little bright perhaps, but that's FSX for you). The clouds above the horizon have a faintness that matches what I'd expect in reality. One problem with monitor calibrations is that images taken and uploaded will only look the same to people with the same calibration, so if the monitor is set dark enough then it'll look 'normal'.

Doesn't happen during the day, dusk, dawn nor anywhere else in games like Skyrim, Crysis 2, Withcer 2.... What monitor? Are you runing your display at 16 or 32 bit color? If its set at 16 change it to 32 and see if that helps. I dont see any problem, if you are talking the relections in the water that is normal, otherwise if you are seeing banding then I think you are using 16bit color or your monior is really 16 bit and dithering to try to make up for it which is the case with a majority of affordable flat panel displays. And as somewhat mention above, try adjusting your brightness and contrast settings according to what ambiant light you fly in, according to your taste. Has nothing to to with calibration, as your not trying to go after corrected color, matched to a printer or to other displays but more to what you can do with your display to match you own preferences or make up for where it might be lacking? I'm running fsx on a laptop Asus G750J, brand new. Colors are 32bit on native resolution. Edit: Solved - playing with gama setting in Nvidia control panel and the lines are gone Thanks guys for help! September 1, 201312 yr Author I am suing an AOC 27" monitor...Nothing much....As I said, everything is fine during the day/dusk/dawn...but problematic during the night. Someone suggested SweetFX which made things worse (during the Night). Talking about monitor calibration, how do you do that !!? I wanna try it Thanks, Regis Regis Biassala
September 2, 201312 yr Author Hi, See, I have attached the bad night clouds and the good day clouds...Both taken at the same Airport. I am just playing with the time (for night and Day). Any help please. Thanks Regis Edited September 2, 201312 yr by firehawk44 Images removed as they exceeded the 400KB weight. Yours were 718KB and 2.78MB's respectively. September 2, 201312 yr Moderator See, I have attached the bad night clouds and the good day clouds...Both taken at the same Airport. I am just playing with the time (for night and Day). Must be the way your monitor is adjusted. Your screen shots look fine to me. I can't even see the clouds in the night screen shot you called "bad night clouds". As mentioned already, if your monitor settings are out of wack it will produce some weird visuals, especially at night where flat screen LCD monitors dont do as well. The way my monitor is set up your night screen shot looks fine to me and I can barely even see the clouds. The only way it would look bad to me is if my monitor was adjusted the same as yours.
