The TDS B787, So Far

Since we last spoke...

TDS don't advertise much, although the download count is pretty healthy!

They've made the -3 version in Trent and GE engine variants.

Files are at flighsim.con:

tds_boeing_787-3_rr_trent1000_base.zip

tds_boeing_787-3_genx_base.zip

And now, the biggie as far as I'm concerned: the 787 - 9,

tds789trent_boeing_n789ex.zip

The shot is just a cut 'n paste taken from a fictitious 787-8 livery (you can see the stretch inserted forward of the wing for the  -9 model).

I hope launch customer Air New Zealand gets a high-quality repaint on this model, before too long!

In my opinion this is the definitive, and best-looking 787.

OK, I'm confused.

I understand the difference between the -8 (the first TDS offering) and the -9 is the longer fuselage... but where does this "-3" fit in?

What Gives?   :O

The -3 is essentially the -8 with winglets, a shorter range, and a higher passenger capacity.

Has a paint kit been produced yet for the -9?  If so where can it be downloaded?

None of my TDS 787's have decent night lighting - no lights on in windows, the vertical stabiliser, and no splash lighting on the fuselage from the landing lights.  Does anyone have a solution to these problems?

I will switch from the Aerosim model to the TDS -9 model when I find a fix for this.

Thanks for the clarification, Kyle! Dumb question; I should have taken the time to do more research!

Now all I need to find is a Boeing House repaint (Red)!

Well, the -3 was cancelled as a result of lack of interest and was originally intended for the Japanese domestic market. Japan Air and ANA have since switched the -3 orders to the -8.

I've taken a liking to these 'oddballs' like the -3, the 767-100, and the 747SP.

Well, the 747SP actually did exist, albeit only 45 were built, whereas the 787-3 and the 767-100 were cancelled before they were ever built.

Oh yeah, I knew that. What I meant was...  'unique' Models. (Or should that be 'were?) The 747SP did a pretty good job, I think.

Slightly OT, but I've been playing around with the POSKY 747SP that models NASA's SOFIA Observatory; a telescope inside the airplane, with a moving Side Panel that exposes the telescope at high altitudes.

Hi,

just a question regarding the new panel which was uploaded to the "other library" (fs2004_tds_b787-8_bbj_panel_project.zip). It uses a FMC by Garrett Smith which is intentionally for FSX. Will this FMC work in FS2004 and is it "usable" in general?

Thanks,

Harald

Yes I believe it is.

I've yet to install the latest edition but it looks pretty good.

(I especially like the V Ref gauge which is cued by aircraft loading.)

From the readme:

4.  Download Garrett Smith's FMC (fmc-1.zip) from FLIGHTSIM.COM and put his HoneywellFMC.cab in your main FS2004 "Gauges" folder (if you haven't already installed it).  Be sure to keep and READ Garrett's manual.  His FMC performs a number of functions and you will need to learn how to initialize it and work those functions to fully benefit from it.  Included in this package is a folder with the bitmaps and simple instructions for making a "Grey" FMC from Garrett's download.  This Grey FMC is configured into this panel for FS2004.  (Garrett's FMC is posted for FSX, but also works in FS2004.)

O.K., those who can read (the readme) have clearly an advantage. Sorry.

Haha, no worries - in return perhaps you can post your impressions once installed.

I am not getting to it.

To be honest, my intention was to use the FMC for a (still very vague) panel project for TDS' 737-700 or better, once released, -600; I don't use the 787 as it is too big for my taste of planes. If I ever get around with this plan, I surely will report in the 737 thread.

The 787-9 repaints are a little slow, there is an all-black ANZ paint, but that is a one-off oddball.

I found this one from Yosuke Ube quite good, and the livery shows off the lines of the aircraft quite well.

The fuselage stretch makes it the most "balanced" looking in the range I reckon.
