Recommendations for the 'best' turboprop in FSX - I want YOUR opinion!

I am an X-Plane user primarily, however I have a question/request for my FSX brethren ...

 

I have re-installed FSX with REX Essentials + OD ... and have installed Carenado's C90B (I am basically a regional turboprop flyer, so the PMDG T7 has limited interest for me as do other tube liners :).

 

Can you please give me your recommendations for what you consider the BEST turboprop for FSX (and give reasons why).

I think the Majestic Q400 is considered at the top for commuter aircraft.   J-41 is pretty good as well but not quite up to the Q400 standard.  Sorry can comment on any other turboprop GA aircraft.

Flight1 KIng Air has a nice TP sim. Realair turbine duke as well.

Hmm .. the Majestic Q400 looks very good .. I might get that one! ^_^

 

 

Majestic Q400 for a newer glass cockpit experience.

PMDG J41 if you like older turboprops with older gauges.

 

Those are my 2 picks.

For regional commercial flying, nothing beats the Majestic Q400.  In addition to overall excellence it is astonishingly frame-rate friendly.  My hardware is nowhere near top-of-the-line and I can maintain a solid 30fps with no stutters in areas with a lot of autogen.  It's has some automation but by and large it's an airplane you fly, not program to fly.  Landings are a real challenge and lots of fun.

 

For GA Definitely the Turbo Duke.  Best flight model in its class, silky smooth instruments and a beautiful virtual cockpit.  It's also frame-rate friendly and a pleasure to fly by hand.

Q400 by a long way.

 

The J41 is good but bad on fps and the sound and icing bugs on my system looses it points.

 

Turbine duke is great but lacking in system details. The post patch has a weird cockpit bounce feature on landing that I can not live with.

 

Q400 is perfect apart from the vor detection range bug that the developers ignore to acknowledge. The sound set is amazing.

This is great! Keep 'em coming ... I've investigated the websites of each of the suggestions and I'm grateful for your personal impressions as well ... they do factor in quite importantly in formulating my buying decision.

 

So far .. the Majestic Q400 (Pro Edition) is a winner for me based on number of votes, impressions and what I've read on the Internet. B)

I also disabled the torque effect on the Q400. A common complaint for user so easy to disable if you feel the same after purchasing.

After many months of research, and hour upon hour of reading, as well as watching videos, and asking pilots.......I have yet to find "one" instance, of heavy torque roll on the take off & climb, in these real life airplanes. If you want more torque, then find an overpowered R/C plane, either hand launched, or rotated before it's time. If real planes dipped like crazy on rotation, they'd be re-called. Either that, or all twins would be using counter rotating props, and singles would be using contra-rotating props.

 

Some simmers think the torque roll is an added bonus. It's more to do, and involves constant manipulation of the controls. I'm very aware of what "real life" torque can feel like, on the takeoff roll. Especially when the wings, ailerons, and tail surfaces are not yet to the point of controlling it. But once airborne, having to use aileron trim, to control torque is not a good thing. It just means "drag", and a reverse roll, when power is pulled back. Aileron trim (if the plane has it) will certainly be used. But it's more for a heavy wing, due to fuel, passengers, a bit off in the rigging department, or just an old, bent and warped aircraft. Lift from the wings, and the effect of the spiraling airstream, just out does the force of torque.

 

P.S. --- You might have a bit of wing dip at rotation, caused by the forces of torque. If so, then correct it quickly with aileron. It should quickly disappear. There should be no constant torque force, that has to be trimmed, such as you'll find with pitch, or possibly a rudder that doesn't have a trim tab, or built in vertical stabilizer offset. A friend of mine flew a 2800 HP single engine (prop) attack aircraft in Vietnam. He said it was all right rudder on the takeoff & climb. Not aileron.

 

P.S. once more. There are plenty of those high powered single engine planes, that will easily roll over on their back, if it's a case of high power, and low airspeed, such as a go-around, or rejected landing on an aircraft carrier. I've seen one do it, in real life.

Off topic but does anyone know if the Majestic Q400 is compatible w/ FSPassengersX?, i.e., that it's flight engine being outside of FSX would prevent FSPax from interacting with it?

The Brasilia is a trim hog. Any power settings difference and you were on the trim more so than any other aircraft, lol. Just like the Beech 1900 but the Beech isn't as bad as the Bro. In FSX I really find it annoying and a little difficult to manage compared to RL where its a natural seat of your pants sort of thing. So I just disable it in the sim.
