arrival runways at KEWER

Featured Replies

Hello,  This is not an airport I have used for a long time. The other night I did a flight to KEWR and on selecting arrivals page in FMC I noticed all the runway ILS are now GLS. I am using MS default airport, and on selecting RW22GLS the next page under this heading showed Min.Prof---------ft.  If you don't put an altitude into this space, the insert button to transfer the data into the route will not take place.  I appreciate this might be a Navigraph AIRAC issue, but I wondered if anyone else has come across this.Richard Welsh.

Here is an article from the FAA describing the GNSS: http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ato/service_units/techops/navservices/gnss/faq/laas/index.cfm?print=go

Min.Prof---------ft

The MIN PROF value is the minimum altitude the PROF mode will be used. I usually use the glide slope intercept altitude or missed approach point altitude.

Not sure about the nav data, but in reality the ILS approaches are still there. GLS only exists at EWR and IAH currently, and the aircraft has to be specially equipped for it. As far as I know no FS aircraft can truly do GLS approaches.

Hello, Thanks Kenny and Steve for your info. Its amazing what you can learn from a simple query. Richard Welsh.

As a further side note, Boeing currently does not offer a GBAS (GLS Landing System) upgrade path for the MD11. It does include it standard on the 747-8 and 787, along with an upgrade option on the 737NG series aircraft.

Hello Jerry, Thanks for your reply. In all the years I have been using FS I have never came across a situation where the runway was preceded by the letters GLS, however, as Kewr and KIAH seem to be the isolated airports using this designation I can understand why.Richard Welsh

Hello Kyle, I will take it as an unintended error on your part as most simmers take your advice with respect and rightly so. regards.Richard Welsh.

If ILS are available, then they should still be an option in the FMS?

Best regards,

Robin.

Hello Robin, That's the point of this post there are no ILS runways in the arrival page of the FMS, only GLS22R for example. Regards. Richard Welsh

Hello Kevin, To you and all the other simmers who replied to my post, please accept my apologies for being so stupid. Im getting on in years and have been so used to seeing the arrival runways listed on page one as being ILS4R and so forth. On this occasion at KEWR I was fooled by the GLS prefix on page one I forgot as Kevin mentioned to SCROLL down, which I did today and found the ILS versions. I have given myself a slap on the wrist. Kind Regards to all. Richard Welsh.

Sorry Richard - it was meant to be a lighthearted joke, playing off of the typo in the thread title.

To you and all the other simmers who replied to my post, please accept my apologies for being so stupid.

Not stupid.  It's worth mentioning that airlines that weren't going to use it would not have it added into the FMC database.  Further, most databases have the approaches list ordered by frequency of use, so ILS would've still been at the top.

Most of the Flight Sim data groups don't offer either of those functions as a service.  Rightly so - there'd be a lot of overhead in trying to manage everyone's preferences and creating custom scripts for all of that (which the airlines pay good money for).

I thought they were listed by precision, so:

ILS

RNAV(GPS)

VOR
