Question about PFPX server subscription (after the first year).

PFPX internet page mentions:

"If you elect NOT to extend the server subscription, PFPX will still be fully functional, but without real-time data such as Winds, METAR, TAF, Tracks and NOTAMs. Other sources, like ActiveSky and RealEnvironment Extreme and your saved weather data and tracks will still be functional! "

So, if it works with Active sky, why would a server subscription be necessary to create a flight plan?

A server subscription isn't necessary to create a flight plan, and they don't say it is ;).

What you need a server subscription for (apart form weather, which you can get from Active sky) is the NOTAMs and track messages.

Assuming you have other sources for Sid and star charts, it has all the basics you really need for the actual route planning portion. Enroute high and low that cover the entire globe, and it can now overlay weather, wind barbs, airmets, sigmets, TFRs, icing, turbulence areas, etc. In fact I recently interviewed with a small airline whose dispatchers actually use it to plan their flights. And it's free.

Then I put the route into FSBuild to get a fuel burn estimate. I'm thinking of switching to something else for that because its usually not accurate and I often end up dipping into my reserves if I take the amount it suggests.

I couldn't agree more. For real world actually flown air routes in the U.S, one need not look any further than Flightaware. Airport diagrams, approach plates, SIDS and STARS can all be obtained from Skyvector.com.

Vataware is good for international flights. All those sites are free. In Flightaware, I'll simply type in a city pair search and it will pop up with all the previously flown flights for a given time period including the routing filed. I'll pick a flight flown by similar equipment to the one I'm using. Regards

John-Alan Pascoe,

Thanks for the information.

PFPX + Active Sky (form me-basics) would work ok.

And now back to Plan-G.  I downloaded it several days ago and it more than meets my needs.  I am really impressed with the product.  Great job TA Software!!!!  I just went in and made a donation, as the quality of this product exceeds a lot of payware I have bought in the past for various purposes.

Is there anyone experiencing constant crashes with Plan-G v 2.05? I have version 3 and it works OK but I really want to use 2.05.
