Rod,

"setting up profiles was no problem" ............ that sure sounds good to me.

Glad to hear it is all working well for you.

I use active sky evolution also .. that's more good news.

Have a good flight and thanks for the feedback.

Best Regards,

No problem Vaughan.

Cheers Rod.

When setting up a flight plan how do you know which SID/STAR to select?

  • Author

Don't take this as being correct (learner driver myself) but when you choose the departure runway as per wind direction given by your weather forecast at the dept airport they are added into your flight plan, I think, I'm sure someone else can update this.

Cheers Rod.

I use VRoute Free and www.simbrief@com.

When setting up a flight plan how do you know which SID/STAR to select?

You look through the SID and STAR charts and pick the one that will take you in the direction you want to go (or the direction you're coming from if it's a STAR).

In Europe it's easier because SIDs are named after the waypoint they end at and STARs are named after the waypoint they begin at (usually). Then it's just a case of picking the SID and STAR that match the runway you are going to be using.

(PFPX auto generated routes do not usually pass European route validation rules)

Wait, pfpx doesn't have route validation? Why would anybody pay a premium price for a flight planning product that doesn't have route validation. I got the impression that PFPX was a serious tool. If it just spits out random illegal routes it's not exactly a premium product, is it?

Wait, pfpx doesn't have route validation?

No, I didn't say that. PFPX in fact has an integrated route validator for routes in Europe. More info here:

"route validator for routes in Europe" ...

I am surprised the USA is not included.

Thanks for the link .. it all at first glance it looks a bit complicated to get a plan finished.

I am surprised the USA is not included.

This is because the US doesn't have a need for such validator. The airspace belongs to one country.

During an hours flight in Europe, you might fly in 4 or 5 different countries airspaces. Each have their peculiar rules and limitations. This is why it's good that there is a single tool for validating flights in Europe.

One word about the link I posted. You could have used the first PFPX generated route for simulator flying (without problems). Greating a "valid" route in Europe is part of the fun of planning for people like me.

Before buying, PFPX I'd strongly suggest checking out: http://www.simbrief.com/   It may fit your needs for the right price...FREE

Nice flight planner .. but, it requires Navigraph for current Navdata.

Aerosoft's NavdataPro is not supported, as of now.

Question about PFPX server subscription (after the first year).

PFPX internet page mentions:
"If you elect NOT to extend the server subscription, PFPX will still be fully functional, but without real-time data such as Winds, METAR, TAF, Tracks and NOTAMs. Other sources, like ActiveSky and RealEnvironment Extreme and your saved weather data and tracks will still be functional! "

So, if it works with Active sky, why would a server subscription be necessary to create a flight plan?
