Navigraph FMS data vs Aerosoft NavDataPro

Featured Replies

I've been a long time user/customer of Navigraph's FMS data but now I'm just in the middle of reinstalling FSX after a hardware upgrade and at this time also my Navigraph FMS data subscription has run out so now I'm thinking should I renew my FMS data subscription with Navigraph or would there be any advantages switch to Aerosoft's NavDataPro at this time instead?

The products I currently use the FMS data with are the PMDG NGX and Aivlasoft's EFB and I've also used SimBrief every now and then and might start using it more further down the road. After a quick look it doesn't seem like NavDataPro supports SimBrief at this time and maybe it never will since it's in fact a free competitor to PFPX which is also published and sold by Aerosoft. Overall to me it looks like Navigraph supports lots more addons at this time but guess Aerosoft will add more and more addons to their offering as well.

Would be great to hear some comments from someone with experience of both products, what is good/bad and if you're happy or regret you changed from one of the products to the other.

I see the Aerosoft method of updating the actual folders as being a lot easier for users. They feature a central tool as opposed to separate Navigraph installers for every addon. As for the data, I'm on Navigraph and never ran a side-by-side comparison although I had the feeling that the Aerosoft competition sort of woke the Navigraph folks up. :O ^_^

Maybe someone can comment on remote or uncommon locations and their data coverage. That was an issue with Navigraph in the past and I have the subjective impression that this has improved.

As for the support, right you are. Great sites like Simbrief only allow for the Navigraph code. Maybe Aerosoft can improve this to really compete on that end. Other than that, good thread.   Looking forward to the comparisons.

Yeah, noticed NavDataPro seem to have more of a GUI of some kind for managing the AIRAC cycles but honestly I never had any issues with installing the Navigraph AIRAC cycles...a simple Next-Next-Finish type of installaition for the addons you're interested in.

I guess at this time I lean towards Navigraph for the simple reason they support lots of more addons SimBrief being one of them but hopefully we'll see more input in hear from more users.

I don't use either Navigraph's or Aerosoft's database myself, but according to one person who has tried both, apparently where Navigraph has only one format for SIDs, Aerosoft has two formats; one which is identical to Navigraph's and another that's totally different.

FMS's that are programmed to read the Navigraph format only will fail (CTD) should they try to read those few SIDs that use the alternate Aerosoft format.

With the low response rate I decided to stick with Navigraph so I just renewed my subscription. Feels good in a way since I've been following the guys at Navigraph for many many years and I always was very happy both with their product and their support etc.

Since NG switched to Jeppesen as the source for their data, I see absolutely no reason to switch to Aerosoft. Since i use Jepp charts, everything now matches perfectly and all the airports I fly to regularly that used to be missing are there now. The only benefit I can see is their utility for updating.

Aerosoft has more Airports/IAP's so I use that, NG really lacks a lot in places like Canada and Oz.

I haven't seen a missing airport in Canada since NG switched to Jeppesen. If it has a public Jeppesen procedure published, then it should be in the NG database.

Since when did they switch too Jep? I didn't know that! Thats kinda cool, there where some smaller fields like Yarmouth, Sept Iles etc in Canada that Navigraph didn't include before thats why I switched. Did they switch there charts to Jep as well, a lof of airports in the USA where wway way way off.

They switched at the beginning of the year. The small airports I fly to that were missing are out west, such as Springbank, Prince Rupert, Boundary Bay, and Masset are all in the database now. I'm sure Yarmouth and Sept Iles are there too.

The charts are still EAG though!

I just went through the same internal debate and ultimately went with navigraph also. The tipping point for me was the simbrief support.

Do Navigraph have some special RNAV RNP procedures like in ZUNZ or NZQN?

Because Aerosoft don't.

Aerosoft airacs don't include updates for the Majestic dash8. Ng does. So that's why I use Navigraph.

This is from a txt file I saved to my Q400 install folder,I can't remember who the original author is.

I use NavDataPro with the Dash without any Problems. You have to install the "FeelThere" files manually.
To be more precise: Create a new Folder named "FeelThere" in your FSX main Folder. For Example, my FSX main folder is E:\FSX . So You create a folder: E:\FSX\FeelThere.
Then you can select the Feelthere Updates in the NavDataPro installer. After having the new cycle installed, you find the data in the E:\FSX\FeelThere folder. Copy the files to:

E:\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\mjc8q400\nav

Please make sure to replace the part E:\FSX\ with your FSX installation path. The standard installation path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\

If you use that, the Majestic Nav Data are in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\mjc8q400\nav
