November 13, 201411 yr I am finding myself almost totally focusing my flying on retro military traffic these days and the various ACG sceneries are wonderful. But Gutersloh continues to absolutely amaze me and the release a few days ago of John Young's latest retro AI, the magnificent Gloster Javelin, gives another option to populate this air base (and its companion, RAF Bruggen) with another icon of the 60's Cold War era. Just curious - any updates on the Harrier Hides project. The screen shots are incredible so it's hard not to be eager to see this latest addition... Cheers Ian
November 13, 201411 yr the magnificent Gloster Javelin A highly underrated aircraft mostly thanks to its successor, the sensational English Electric Lightning.
November 13, 201411 yr I agree mate. I spent a few weeks at Labuan during the "Confrontation" in 1964 and watched them operate, alongside a bunch of Canberras, Beavers, Twin Pioneers and visiting Hastings and Beverly transports. They were capable aircraft and with better electronics probably would have been the equal of the F-102 and in really bad weather, with two crew members, possibly even superior.
November 14, 201411 yr LOL - well, did have regular visits from an occasional RAF Blackburn Beverly - that was pretty ugly, not to mention 41 Squadron RNZAF Bristol Freighters based in Singapore... Your question might make an interesting general forum topic - there would definitely be plenty of contenders for the title, and I doubt the Javelin would make the top 20! Depends on your definition I suppose, but it's hard to think of a massive delta wing fighter as truly "ugly." Clunky perhaps! Cheers mate Ian
November 14, 201411 yr Haven't got FS9 so won't be able to enjoy this unfortunately but as a cold-war aviation fan would just like to say how impressed I am with this, and in an old sim too. If you ever develop for XP10 let me know. I'll THROW money at you, and not coins either. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
November 14, 201411 yr Ian lest there be any confusion I was referring to the Twin Pioneer as ugly, definitely not the Javelin. <_<
November 14, 201411 yr Ah, the "twin pin." Gotcha mate. There's one definite contender for uglier - the original, single-engine Pioneer. As for the Twin Pioneer, it certainly wasn't a pretty aircraft but I never thought of it as ugly. But then I was in love with anything that flew in those days. Come to think of it, I still am! LOL p.s. If anyone wants some AI flight plans for the Javelin, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send it to you. I've got it set up by squadrons, with ETUO Gutersloh, EGQL Leuchars, LCRA Akrotiri and VHHX Kai Tak as bases. (I chose those because I have great sceneries for them and they were all, at some time, host to Javelin squadrons in the 60's. There is a traffic file for EGNV included with the package)
April 11, 201511 yr I have been wondering what has happened with this project? It seemed close to release last year. I would hate to find out that it's out and somehow I missed it CheersIan
April 12, 201511 yr Author Manfred and his Beta friends are still playing with the Harrier Hides, clearly they are enjoying it so much they don't know when to stop! Perhaps they'll draw the line, make it payware, and just release it... the amount of detail and features is boggling.
April 13, 201511 yr I got a PM from Manfred. No worries - it's still being tested and tweaked. My big fear was that it had been released elsewhere and I somehow missed it... It's coming and definitely worth waiting for! Ian
June 4, 201511 yr Just to ask for some more patience - but that's life Just because it is a hobby and some circumstances in life, sometimes things don't come to be that quick as expected. So please keep on bearing with this project. Currently, the really complex AI traffic is tested at least.
June 4, 201511 yr It's not a problem Manfred. We understand that you have a real life outside the hobby and a complex project like this must take up an enormous amount of time. When you're ready, we will be thrilled. Until then, we will wait. I am confident that when it's released, it will be amazing and probably the last truly great add-on for FS9. Ian :Applause:
