October 14, 201312 yr I don't use P3D (yet) but pretty sure you need FSX installed. It is not a standalone application. Best regards, Jim You don't need FSX at all to use P3d 1.4. It is also a standalone app. The only major component that I've ever seen that was "missing" from P3d 1.4 was F18.dll, because it was part of the FSX Acceleration F18 aircraft (other than components needed for aircraft carrier ops and associated scenery objects). If you were to download a earlier version of the freeware aircraft Dino C.'s F-35 (which uses F18.dll) you would run into problems with P3d. Else, P3d 1.4 is just a slightly improved version of FSX. As to preparing for Prepar3d 2.0, I would do nothing special. My rationale is that whatever sim that you are using now may have to function as a fallback, because new major versions of software tends to have bugs. Although these bugs might only impact a small number of users, that user might be you.
October 14, 201312 yr I did the reformat P3D thing about a year ago....you will probably end up reinstalling FSX because some stuff will just not work and I imagine even more will break with 2.0, so I wouldn't be so quick to do a reformat (esp if u use PMDG) They can co-exist peacefully. It just take a little careful thought when installing. Don't forget to put both in the main drive directory so you don't run into permission probs. If you want to use your REX you will have to pay an additional fee to use the license for P3D as well (1.4) But it is unknown if REX in it's current state will even work with it at all. All they will say at this point is that they are working with the devs over there and thats all they will say so.... Steve McNitt

Since they are on the beta and currently support v1.4 I think it is safe to assume that they will have a product which works with v2. Tom "I just wanna tell you both: good luck. October 14, 201312 yr Moderator 1.4 and 2.0 are separate products and share no registry entries. You can have 1.4 AND 2.0 on the same system with no conflicts. Now, 3rd party add-ons might have some issues UNLESS they are specifically made for P3D. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 14, 201312 yr I'd do a total reinstall of the OS. That's the only secure way to get everything totally clean. I don't believe any utility can do it better than a complete reinstall. Having just re-installed FSX (again), I can't agree with this more. It may take longer and be a pain but its less so than troubleshooting a fresh FSX installation with add-on's on the same old OS installation. Well, that was my first thought - it'd be nice for that reason, and just in view of available time (not much), to be able to install P3D on an existing system and just go. But, on the other hand, I understand the arguments in favor of reinstalling. Just so I understand... can someone explain the issues that are likely to come up if you add P3D to an existing OS with FSX in place? Add-ons dueling at the registry level or do you anticipate (or with 1.4 have you experienced) other issues? Not trolling - I'd really like to get a better handle on the risks and benefits. October 14, 201312 yr P3D 1.4 only has a few registry keys. No need to bring out the WMD's and nuke the whole OS. -
