November 3, 201312 yr I'm surprised that's even allowed! It's fine because that's not the safety demo he is just rapping the welcome announcement, you could tell because you don't give a safety demo during boarding and his song included flight and service information. November 3, 201312 yr The UK CAA and all the other European authorities would certainly object. Why? Again, it was not the safety briefing. Merely the welcome aboard speech. I don't know why it is labeled as a safety announcement on the youtube video. Maybe the person uploading it doesn't know the difference? It is no different than boarding music. It is not mandatory since it is made with the doors open before all passengers are aboard, which means some people may not hear it at all, unlike the safety demo that can only be started after everybody is aboard and the door is closed. Does the Uk CAA and other European authorities object to elevator music during boarding?
November 3, 201312 yr I'm surprised that's even allowed! I see that as an employee going above and beyond in a way that sets Southwest apart from the others. They are lucky to have him working with them. As been said he was just entertaining the passengers and that was not the safety message, notice the doors to the aircraft are still open when he does his rap. Therefore the flight wasn't even commencing yet. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

November 4, 201312 yr Alan_A, on 31 Oct 2013 - 4:39 PM, said: to start the briefing off by telling people how to fasten a seatbelt. I think its to alleviate any possible legal issues such as a passenger not wearing a seat belt who got injured in turbulence then tries to sue the airline claiming no one showed him how to use it. In the US it is legally required as per FAR 91.107. I assume other countries have the same rules. You can't move the aircraft until everyone has been advised of this. Even in a little 172, I still brief everyone, every time without doing an actual demo. I make sure to remind them that the clip and release button is sandwiched between the seat and the door in a nearly inaccessible position with the door closed. I don't get the new video. I doubt anyone that wouldn't listen would suddenly become interested and take something away from the material. I'm sure some study that was conducted to justify the production costs says otherwise. Seeing how many people don't keep their belts buckled, don't know how to stow away items or to keep their seat backs up, etc. I doubt most of them will be of any help when it comes time to evacuate in a hurry. I'm sure some of you will recall seeing people taking their bags with them in the videos of the Asiana KSFO crash?

November 5, 201312 yr I decided to put the videos to the ultimate test. I have around 20 students on an aviation safety/airmanship and cockpit procedures course. All them speak English to ICAO level 5-6. So their understanding is perfect. Each video was presented and they were asked to note the pros and cons. Also from the point of view of a first time flier and frequent flier. The unanimous decision was for the BA video. Their reasoning was that the information being given is potentially life saving and that that video was done in the correct manner by keeping people's attention with the use of language, simple cartoon and subtitles for those passengers who speak little or no English. They also pointed out that such important information does not need "dressing up". Because by doing just that the message becomes less clear. They did like the American Airways approach but felt it was disjointed. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
November 5, 201312 yr How representative of the average passenger are the 20 students of a class of aviation safety/airmanship and cockpit procedures?
November 5, 201312 yr being strapped in a seat and forced to watch a rap video would probably push me over the edge... :0 Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 Russell Gough SE London
