November 3, 201312 yr I was considering getting track ir 5, but since it is quite expensive I am a bit hesitant. I fly primarily airlines the 737 ngx and 777. I also have a dash 8 and a small realair legacy. I am curious about people's experience using track ir for the 737 ngx. Would you recommend it? How easy is it to use when doing preflight setup and looking at the overheads then down to the pedestal and over to glareshield etc.
November 4, 201312 yr YES!!! I will NOT fly without trackir! It may take some getting used to, but it's superb. Lukas "TIN TIN -=9th Shrek=-" Mathijsen
November 4, 201312 yr I use TrackIr and EZdok at the same time for VC cockpit flights .. they work well together. However, on many flights I now use mostly Ezdok alone in the VC. But for the VRS SuperBug (VRS F/A-18) ... mostly TrackIr. Bottom line ... nice to have both. If I had to choose ($$$) I would get Ezdok ($35 US) first , and TrackIr ($150 US) second. November 4, 201312 yr TrackIR every time. I won't fly without it now in the VC. Simple to set up and all you need is to move your head! Yes it's slightly more expensive, but do it. And get the infrared clip to replace the "reflective" clip that comes with it. Much smoother. Dan Wabe
November 4, 201312 yr It's really hard to tell whether you will like it or not. Personally I wouldn't fly without it either but others have tried and never came to terms with it for one reason or another. You simply have to try it for an extended period of time. It also depends on the environment where you use it. Also, when I used the track clip pro on my logitech headset, the movements looking far up on the overhead in the 737NGX where actually quite hard to master. Then I connected the clip pro to my Dave Clark headset and it was like night and day! The 737NGX, TrackIR and FS2Crew is a match in heaven! Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
November 4, 201312 yr There are only a few exceptions where I'm not using TrackIR (when fiddling with airport design etc.). In flying mode I won't miss it. Regards,Axel
November 4, 201312 yr In my view it is simply the best FS investment ever. Unless you've got money to build a home cockpit.
November 11, 201312 yr Author I got my trackir. It worked ok for my c172 (not the best but not bad either) but I am having a real tough time with it in the 737ngx. Can anyone recommend some sort of settings or a profile for the 737ngx? Did a flight earlier with the 737ngx and it was really painful. Having difficulty using overhead and when I need to check guages close up quickly.
November 12, 201312 yr For me personally TrackIR is wasted money I could use better - YMMV. Instead, I use alternatives, FaceTrackNoIR - allows for headtracking and tracking a TrackIR clip-like device (which you would probably have to make yourself though). As for hardware price - I bought a PS Eye webcam (NOT Eye Toy), plus a holder for mounting on top of my monitor, about 20 bucks total. As much is enough for face tracking, which normally works fine in a well-lit room. There is also the option with LED tracking, which I am going to go with for night flying. Depending on your skills, you might either buy a readymade solution for about 30 dollars, or buy your own for under 10. For starters, I ordered a couple of LED keychains with an option for permanent switch on/off (i.e. not just "signal") which I plan to mount to a cap using scotch tape. --Peter Fabian

One nice thing about purchasing the TrackIr is their wonderful technical support. I called their published phone number. In just a few minutes the tech got me going ... with the correct file (profile) "edited" for my use. Give them a try. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
November 12, 201312 yr Check this: This uses DCS: A-10C as the example, but same applies to FSX. If you need any further assistance let me know. Lukas "TIN TIN -=9th Shrek=-" Mathijsen
