Instead of v5

Featured Replies

Now that we know that there will not be a version 5 I wondered if some small improvements could be made to v4.3 which I would have thought would not amount to a huge workload. Improvements such as:-

1. Giving us more time to instigate a level change after acking it.

2. Not requesting us to turn back to a missed waypoint.

3. To cease the constant repetition of reducing speed to 250 kts when we are in the process of slowing down.

4. Changing "taxi into position and hold" to "line up and wait".

5. Not telling us about traffic that is more than 1000 ft above or below us.

These changes would take RC from being "excellent" to being "perfect".

If, in fact, these changes do amount to a large amount of work then I withdraw the suggestion. I don't want to upset anyone here, this is only a suggestion.

Iain you are right, I'll add a reasoneably distortion in voice communicatns from ATC ti pilot and more realistic "radio" voices.

Meatwater are good, too fast, but not so smooth as fsx default atc, that I think is the best and real atc reagarding to spoken method.

2. Not requesting us to turn back to a missed waypoint.

If that happens you can just request direct to a certain waypoint.

Yes I know that metalmike, I've been using RC4 for nearly 8 years. The point I was making is that it is not ideal or lifelike.

Iain,

I asked JD a few months ago if he would make minor changes to eliminate some annoying features but sadly the answer was no. Unless he has a big change in his feelings toward RC4 I'm afraid we're stuck with them.

That is a pity Ray. I shall have to go on regarding it as an unfinished product. :(

Likewise Iain. JD has visited these pages yesterday and must have seen the post. I'm sure if he had any news for everyone he would have posted.

Just because RC4 isn't fitted exactly to your liking doesn't make it "unfinished". The items you mentioned either mirrored real life operations at the time the program was designed or are "nice-to-haves".  It is a software program and, as a result of no future revisions, will therefore become dated with time as the real world operations change.

The only item I'd like to see added to RC is an updated airline callsigns list.

I said "I shall have to go on regarding it as an unfinished product."  I am entitled to do that without your permission.

Hi,

If you regard ,RC 4.3 as an unfinished product then you must also regard any of the stock ATC ,,PFE. and ProATC as unfinished too.

Rc 4.3 is long in the tooth by todays standards as are all the other ATC progs available. This is  due to the fact that the ATC systems of the world are still evolving and using more up to date procedures and equipment.

The on line controllers are also having to adjust the way they operate just to keep up with developments.

I will still use RC 4.3, as for my needs, it provides me with a better ATC experience than any other program available.

I don't think items 1, 2 and 3 of my OP mirrored real life operations at any time!

I didn't say anything about 1, 2 or 3 being real life operations.  #4 was the correct real life nomenclature when RC was being developed.

I think I'm losing the will to live!

Another 2 features that should need to be changed:

1- the "descend to FL 130, start down now, please, I need you levelled within 30 miles or less" and if you don't manage the controller makes you go back to the opposite direction you are going... unrealistic...

2- possibility to ask for weather deviation during the last 40 miles of the flight!
