P3D 64bit?

Featured Replies

I'm excited about the new upcoming v2.0 coming out but has anyone heard if it's going to be 64bit code or the old 32bit code? It doesn't seem to mention this anywhere...

This question has been answered many times, but the answer is a simple no :(

That doesn't give me a reason to go out and purchase it.... I'll stick with FSX for now until something better comes out.  Thank you for your quick reply...

What?

Please tell me what "64 bit" is actually going to get you that would stop you moving to p3d?

There is a list a mile long of improvements that have been made not least of which a dx11 engine which will reduce oom's anyway.

I honestly am starting to think that these threads are started by xplane fanatics.

What makes you believe just because it may or may not be 64 bit it's better or worst than 32 bit. Specially if you havn't seen what they have done with DX11 and performance?

This was uncalled for, with this type of replies, I wonder who's the fanatic!

Before you start accusing a community of "fanatics", I would suggest you reply with some kind of proof.

Proof of what? A passing opinion on the obsession with "64 bit" when it doesn't seem anyone really knows what benefit it brings except the possibility of reduced OOM.

It's not an episode of Perry Mason!

Proof of whether or not the OP is an Xplane  fanatic...what else!

Wouldn't you agree that if P3d goes 64bit, that would be the end of the dreaded OOM's? I think so!

You missed my point. Its an opinion comment wrapped in some sarcastic humour. Why should I offer any proof of anything? Its not a court of law in here last I heard although some of the armchair anti-P3D lawyers in here would have you think it is.

Quite possibly, but why would that stop you enjoying the other improvements that P3D has to offer? Its like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Add to the fact that the DX11 engine will probably improve the OOM situation anyway (and OOM's don't affect all users anyway - I have never seen one for instance) and it makes even less sense.

There are a lot of people who seem to think that '64 bit' is the answer to everything. Its not.

Nothing better is coming along. At least not anytime soon.

Just stick with FSX if you are that worried about 64 bit. I mean, that makes no sense as FSX is 32 bit and even worse with OOM errors, but to each his own.

I believe the proportion of P3D users who have experienced OOM or CTD compared to FSX is very small. Improvement has been there already, this will be even better. Should we stay with the unstable one because the new one is not improvement enough? Really?

How about we enjoy the choices we have, I for one am thankful for any improvement to my sim time.

I've have zero OOMs with DX10 and FSX - and that's still good ol' 32 bit.

But hey, your loss...

DirectX 11 will only do so much, even though LM has manage to balance the load between cpu and gpu, the fact remains that once you start shoving p3D's directory with a bunch of add-on's and increase eye-candy, you will experience OOM's, garanteed!

DirectX 11 is not the solution to OOM's, 64 bit on the other hand is.

Never seen one.....ever! Perhaps because I don't push the sim harder that required. 4096 textures and nonsense like that.

Again I ask what about the 100's of improvements that P3D v2 offers over FSX? You are just going to ignore them because its not 64 bit? Its extremely short sighted.

It's pretty clear to me that some people here worship the concept of 64 bit apps, even though they can't quite explain what the profound improvement is of going to 64 bit is. A 64 bit OS is great as it allows each app to run in it's own memory space (including the OS). Coding a 64 bit app is a joy for people who write apps, because they have a major conceptual restriction removed. But when it comes to 3D apps running under Win 7 or 8 x64, the advantage of a 64 bit version over a 32 bit version is far less important than how efficiently the app makes use of the GPU (which does all the "heavy lifting" in this type of app). To some extent, going to 64 bit like saying "My car runs on premium gas." That might be a good thing or it might be of no consequence.
