I was getting 47-now 1-2, long sim starts and crashes.

That's insanely drastic and unlike anything I've ever experienced or heard from anyone on the team.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to run some tests and report back. Can you tell me what CPU and GPU you have, as well as what shadow setting you had activated?

Intel Core i7 [email protected] ghz, 12 gb ram, windows 7 64 bit, Geforse gtx 560, running 1920x1080res. New HD mesh installed...

<edit> confirmation-no HDR on my setup-works great otherwise.

Unfortunately can't do more tonight-but looks like a great add in-look forward to experimenting more...

Thanks Geofa. Almost immediately I think this is a case where your 920 may be CPU bound with all that you're loading. That card may be taking additional hit as well with the HD mesh. 1080p is not a drastic resolution, so I can't tell for sure.

I'm going to run a few tests here and get back to you. Did you have rays on or off when running in HDR?

rays on-but I just turned them down. Again-I don't care that much about HDR and it seems to run fine without it.

I realize it's not so important to you, but others have been asking about HDR so may as well followup. :)

Playing around over Hawaii (ApilotX Hd mesh)

With HDR active, FPS seems the same or faster than the equivalent settings with default clouds. The clouds still look great, but don't quite fit the background as well. This will apparently require some assistance from LR to work better. Picture is Hawaii again, over one of Frede's excellent Hawaii airports. (moving airport vehicles etc) http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=18476 and http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?s=82121918def7dae0f37f94b7a8492fa6&app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&search_app=downloads&mid=125076 some of which seem to require Ruscenery Library to work correctly. http://ruscenery.x-air.ru/

Well first impression is that XPX finally has Clouds instead of strange alien skystuff.

1st recommendation is turn the Godrays the heck off! On my system the effect is like the sun going nova.

2nd impression is that my XPX exploration time is going to increase.

3rd impression is I will need to turn my gamma down, since solar luminosity has gone up. (Pre-nova?)  :P

4th impression is: CLOUDS!!!!!!!

5th impression: Some of the best money I have spent on the hobby.

6th impression: CLOUDS!!!! hahahahahahahahah!!! (Drolls slightly, dog watches me with concern, since that's his job)

7th impression: Color matching between sky and clouds can seem slightly off but its early times and I probably just need to play more.

8th Impression: Clouds! Clouds! Clouds!!!! (Dog hands me a calming biscuit)

Crunch crunch........ (Fiddles with settings)

Agree about the colors-some time needed but much potential....

Pairing these clouds up with good photoscenery is making for some pretty cool "Real or Memorex?" moments. Well done, John!

But don't those colors look like a color moment in the 60's with kodachrome? Hiflyers looks more realistic but haven't been able to get that yet on mine...and Hiflyers last shot looks like mine-kinda abrupt cuts in the clouds like cutting them out with scissors..

Is the scissor thing an HDR artifact that could possibly be turned down somehow?  Only on the edges where the refraction is happening makes me thing without HDR perhaps they would look different.

Yep-my clouds look look like your last shot...I can't run HDR on my setup -1-2 fps if I do.

It's strange. For some reason, the screenshot looks more dull than it does in the sim. I noticed it and figured I was probably seeing things. Oh well. I'm pretty happy with SkyMAXXX overall. Looks much better than the default, and I've got nice performance. My SM settings are almost identical to HiFlyer's, except I've got Crepuscular Rays down to about 5%.

Skymaxx acted a bit wonky till I restarted my system. I was wondering if all the huge mesh downloads (and decompressions) earlier had fragmented my memory.

Fps with HDR was normal for my system after that.

I restarted my system many times-thought it might be the same-even running Google Chrome/Internet Explorer-no joy here.
