Under those lighting conditions, its not an unrealistic look......... A touch of gamma and some crepuscular maybe? What seems to be missing is the corona at the edges.....

I had a really nice flight today thanks to SkyMaxx Pro and the HD Mesh v2.

Definitely one of my best.

I used G2XPL to create photo textures for the HD Mesh v2 tiles I downloaded,

also to increase my fps, because my old PC is not too keen about higher res textures.

This way I can still profit from the new mesh and OSM updates, like there was one lake missing in the area I fly very often.

Not sure if this is a SKYMAXX PRO, X-Plane 10.25 or Xsquawkbox problem. I know it never happened before installing Skymaxx, but whenever xsquawkbox updates the weather, the sim pauses for up to 10 seconds then continues after updating. Anyone have any reason why this may be happening?

I have also noticed on my first night flight with scatterred clouds, all of the ground lights from cars and streeet lights at FL350 are not visible and stars are barely visible.  So basically it's like flying in a black hole.

I have seen what CarlosF screenshot is showing and in the Sim those clouds under Dusk/twilight conditions look more like smoke clouds than anything else, Overcast or heavy clouds in those conditions looks like Desert Storm in the Saudi Desert when the oilfields were torched back in early 91.

More playing around, this time with Crepuscular rays. I think its "Wow!" Images like this as much as anything that will pull more people into trying X-plane.

What's the performance hit with HDR on?

With HDR on....I tank to 6-10 fps going through or having a right or left view of a cloud cluster....OUCH!

I also don't see much of any difference, I still have puff-ball clouds that look exactly like the default issue.

The program installed, I have set most as default, but still nothing WOW......

I also now have HDR off, and hope things will improve.....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No WOW factor, here.  With all sliders set to half their travel range, with all other checkmark's set to low, I can only get 27-30 fps with HDR disabled. If I have my prized HDR on....I can tank to as low as 6 FPS, and now, (which I have never had....), I can get a total sim freeze of up to 20 seconds or greather, as the clouds are doing whatever.  Never had this with non-installed set up.

Not happy.....

Any suggestions from those that 'wow'ed this?  I'm open ears.....and BTW, any further pics posted of near or going through clouds would be most helpful if you have your FPS rate in the top left showing what is really happening....thanks!

I just uninstalled it.  Introduced freezes in XPX, cloud tops were devoid of any texture and blocks and chunks,  default looked more custom to me, and absolutely killed my performance.

I'm at work and can only reply in brief right now. Have you tried turning the crepuscular rays off? I want to work this out with you later this evening if we can...

I am sorry you are dissatisfied but I am sure we can find a solution to you woes...For now can someone here who has found a good balance with SM help out?

I would say delete all other lighting mods. After a few anomalies, I did an update on my Xplane and allowed it to return all files to default. Then I uninstalled and re-installed SkymaxxPro with some good results, including the "mega nova glare o' death" when using High levels of Crepuscular rays going away, and some better framerates.

I very much appreciate you wanting to help.  Here's what I did since posting above:

1. Uninstalled completely using the uninstall file provided.  Rebooted the system, re-installed SkyMaxx, and after both security masks, fired up XPX.  I left the config screen totally at default, and downloaded real weather.  If I have HDR (which I love...) engaged, with your installed SkyMaxx at default stock, I will drop from a most constant 29-30 FPS, to as low as 6, and then mostly stay at around 12-14 FPS.  I also have (when clouds updating or whatever, total sim freezes that have lasted as much as 20 seconds at worst and general pauses, if not outright total loss of animation and lock up. (I thought that it was a fatal freeze requiring a reboot!).  If I leave off HDR and turn off God Rays, I can now mostly keep it around 25-30 with default slider settings and no God Rays, but to tell you honestly, I (P.O here...) am rather disappointed in the cloud textures themselves. I truly don't see a much above-and-beyond the texture puffs of stock XPX.25.   John, your UrbanMaxx is killer, and a XPX must have, but for this guy, this purchase became a disappointment. It's my honest feedback at this time.....  I have business to attend to for the rest of this week, but perhaps you can suggest some options to try, and I will enable them through P.M.  when I can get the chance.  Again, I appreciate you wanting to raise my satisfaction meter reading....and hope that you can....

Thanks for the reply HiFlyer.  I only have the runway lights mod and the UrbanMaxx night light texture from off of the .org  (which I most certainly want to keep both in place!!!!) and they are the only mods. I can't imagine that they would affect a weather generator and the cloud texture placement engine....

Thanks for your thoughts.

Since your system is a step up from mine, you should do at least as well....... (About the addons, I had the HD HDR addon, which I think did alter some shaders)
