Skymaxx impression/Bugs ?

Featured Replies

First of all the clouds are beautiful ! But I notice there are no clouds in the horizon when approaching a line of clouds. They are visible in the weather menu and in the local map/sectional. It would be nice if the clouds would gradually appear on the horizon instead of popping on all of a sudden. One minute you are flying VFR and the next minute you are in IMC conditions. This is a buzz kill for me ;(

Second the transition from day to night is like turning off a light switch.

I hope these issues get addressed at some point.

This has to do woth how the default weather engine works. If you are going to use real world I recommend using the NOAA plugin.

I'm seeing some feedback on the dawn dusk transitions we will look into it....;)

Does the popping on still occurs with the NOAA plugin. I have the NOAA plugin installed but I could never get it to work properly, its stuck on "downloading new cycle".

But beware that the plugin also causes abrupt wind / temp / turb and cloud changes when the aircraft crosses the altitude bellow which METAR data is used instead!

So far I have been really enjoying skymaxx, awesome clouds and love the god rays, I have noticed that you do take an FPS hit with the rays but they can be disabled if necessary. So far it is incredible to actually have an awesome atmosphere to complete xplane!

They are much more plausible than the default clouds. That was on of the main things holding me back from XPX. I saw the clouds and didn't believe in them: They were strange blobs. I saw the sunlight: And it was like a florescent lamp. I saw the trees, and instead of thinking "Tree" I thought "cardboard cutout"

It went on. I just could never convince myself I was in a real world in XPX. Now, with the new mesh and the clouds, its just that little bit easier.

FYI, I used the NOAA plugin and wound up removing it since it wasn't even close to the actual weather reading from a nearby station. Once I disabled it and ran the fetch weather from the net it recovered with absolute accuracy for winds, barometer and vis as verified via the Skyvector app. I don't think i've ever been able to make it work correctly though I'm not sure if it was my settings messing it up. i have to admit though, those clouds sure look nice...    B)

Great Work Guys...

Hi flyer, I can definitely understand where your coming from, what has helped me out a lot with xplane is the simheaven osm, G2xpl, urban max! and now skymaxx, that combined with the awesome weather, turbulence, rolling runways has gotten me pretty much sole xplane user

I have enjoyed the add on and feel it's a step in the right direction.  Getting rid of the dark cloud ring overhead at launch and the instant whiteout condition has made a huge difference fore me.  I have seen some strange results with the default visibility range limit. For example I landed at KDEN today wich had a four mile visibility limit and a few of the clouds were "Stuck" on the visibility threshold.;so while the visible ground continued to treadmill under my aircraft a "fog wall with a couple of clouds pasted to it" remained exactly four miles ahead of my CRJ during the approach; that sort of blew but I don't think it was skymax's fault.

I also flew a dusk flight from Dallas to Lawton OK where the clouds looked black against the sky which reminded me of the skies during Desert Storm.  Other than those anomalies I'm still pretty happy and sort of feel that this is still a WIP with the best yet to come.

No joy. Does the pythoninterface folder go into the resources/plugins folder ? Do I do anything with the files that are inside the pythoninterface folder ?

A video tuturial ! I think there is a bug with windows that keeps it from working.

From the link I posted:

The folders will look like:

\resources\plugins\PythonScripts    with a folder and two script files inside, named "nooaWeatherResources", "EasyDref.py" and "PI_noaaWeather.py"

\resources\plugins\PythonInterface   <----  Yes it goes inside the plugins folder under resources.... and nothing has to be done with what's inside of it...
