New and testing XP10

Featured Replies

Hello!

I've been testing with XP10 for an hour and exploring it, with the Dreamfoil 206 and CRJ.

Various questions:

1) I think it doesn't have the performance that it should have with my PC. I7 2600k 4,6Ghz and GTX770 2GB. 8Gb ram and on SSD. It is good but not so smooth with sliders maxed.

2) I don't like the view system. For me is difficult to pan around the VC like FSX, with my joystick. I have a Logitech G940 and I use the 4 axis button in the joystick, but in XP I can't setup it. Help?

3) How I can change between the aircraft panels? For example OH, etc...

That's easy. You simply don't have a system that is capable of using X-Plane 10 with maximum settings!

2. The View System is no problem you simply have to bind the 4 axis buttons to the Pan View (left/right/up/down) controls.

Oh what a sim! With my system I can run at max the most new games, I think P3D2 will run very well. X-plane is very hard so...

For the controls, I need to setup the button to the pan in settings? I'll test

Hello and Welcome Aboard,

You have a strong computer system and it should run XP10 fine but not with maxed sliders. I really don't believe there is such a system yet so don't feel bad.  I have a strong system too and can get a really nice result from XP10 but if I were to max every rendering option available including the options in SkyMax and then load the CRJ at Seattle in heavy weather I would not see double digit frame rates.

There usually is a setting or two that will cause your system to bottleneck and the best way to figure it out is to click the button in rendering options that say to configure for maximum performance and start working your way up pushing the rendering options up a bit a little at a time until your satisfied with the look and FPS.  Your going to hit a point where a compromise will have to be made.

On my system HDR + FSAA options, resolution, and traffic are what take the most toll on my FPS. I was able to run 4xAA+FSAA but since Skymax Pro has been released I have had to back that off a notch to 2xAA+FSAA.  That HDR trade off affects a lot of people. I can shut it off and let Nvidia Inspector control my AA & AF functions for a very clean look and pick up a bunch of FPS as well but I love HDR, especially at night and that's a compromise I make.

If the developers are ever able to uncouple HDR from the AA+AF settings I'd be really happy, unfortunately there is no way (that I know of) to select HDR as an option and have Nvidia Inspector control the AA and AF functions within the sim.

Good Luck and Have fun!

Take a pic of your setting and post here so we can help you even more. Like Blaze posted already, there isn't a computer today that will run XP at max settings. Don't be discouraged, XP looks very nice even at half settings.

3) How I can change between the aircraft panels? For example OH, etc...

2) Go to "Settings"->"Joystick & Equipment"->"Buttons: Basic"

Click the hat switch button up and release it, then assign it to: "General command: tilt up." or "General command: tilt up fast."

Repeat the procedure for the other three hat switch directions assigning them to "General command: tilt down.", "General command: pan left." and "General command: pan right."

This way, you can pan in the virtual cockpit with the hat switch, but you'll lose the capability of rotating the point of view (with the hat switch) in the external views.

3) Unless the aircraft has preset views, you have to create them yourself. Follow this procedure:

.) In the virtual cockpit view, move and rotate your point of view (arrow keys to move up/down/left/right, "." and "," to move forward/backward) until you are satisfied with the point of view (example, overhead view, etc.)

.) Save the current view by pressing "CTRL" + one of the Numpad keys (0-9); (NUM LOCK must be active)

You can save up to 10 different views per aircraft.

.) The saved views can be recalled by pressing the specific Numpad key (NUM LOCK must be active)

OK! Thanks to all! The views are now setup and i can pan around VC!

About performance i'm happy, with the CRJ now, at LEPA (stock) with bad weather i have 55 FPS (Fraps)...but i think there are some ¿blurries? or same when paning views etc...

These are my graphic setting:

To improve performance, you could try:

1) Lowering the "water reflection detail" a notch or two; it's very performance intensive, especially if the other settings (objects, trees) are set high;

2) Try also lowering the "shadow detail" a notch or two and see if you like the results;

3) Finally, disabling "HDR rendering" should improve performance significantly, but the lighting will be different, so you might or might not like the results.

You might also back one setting down from extreme resolution and see what (if anything) happens.

I would be too believe me, 55fps with bad weather is pretty darn good. Honestly I don't know what else I can suggest when you already have nice performance. Try HDR off if you want more fps.

I once read somewhere that anything above 40 FPS is barely noticeable to the human eye, and to be honest, that's been my experience. I always looked at extra FPS above that as an allowable overhead that addons could eat away at without really affecting performance.

Performance is absolutely perfect with this settings! Is very maxed, my PC can handle it! I like X-Plane... The scenery, the houses, the trees, the water is perfect... I think is a very good sim, and with future updates it will be very good! Need more famous developers to come...

I'm happy flying helicopters with it...

Personally I've had X-Plane 10 for ages but never played around with it much. Ironically the release of P3D 2.0 has made me spend some time with X-Plane - P3D 1.4 feels too outdated now, and it will take a month or two before P3D 2.0 is ready with all the add-ons working.

Now with the HD mesh and some nice Carenado planes, X-Plane it's really a different sim from last time I checked it out.

Some nice tips about the viewpoint. It always annoyed me in X-Plane. Am I correct in that you can't use an 8-way hat switch without special plug-ins?

Regarding frame rates, moderation is key. The options are called "Extreme", "Too much" etc. for a reason. I can easily bring my system to its knees, but using sensible settings produces the same image quality with a nice, smooth frame rate.

... the water is perfect...

Somewhat funny :wink: - when the current representation of water was introduced in XP several years ago (and it didn't change since then) most people said: "uuuhhh ... this is ugly ... it is too dark, not blue enough". But interestingly in the nearer past I didn't hear this anymore, but exactly the opposite. That's one more evidence that people need time to accustom themselves to something new when they were used carribean blue water all over the world :rolleyes: .

I'm happy flying helicopters with it...

One more point where X-Plane shines ... I did my first (real) helo sightseeing tour some weeks ago, since then I am again investing more time in helicopter flying ... err ... trying to ... it's quite difficult to hold a helo "motionless" in the air.
