January 2, 200521 yr In my dreams anyway. I think this is about as good as we can ever hope for.http://www.cae.com/www2004/Video_Gallery/TroposHIGH320.wmv
January 2, 200521 yr Wow, that sure does show you what's possible. I wonder what kind of computer they run that on.
January 2, 200521 yr I have seen that one before as a commercial for a professional flightsimulator, it certainly has a nice graphics engine..Kurt
January 2, 200521 yr Now that is incredible! I am guessing that is what we should expect for FS2008 but no later that FS2110. RH
January 2, 200521 yr Author Latest 2008 really. computer performance doubles just about every year both in rendering quality and performance.
January 2, 200521 yr What's unbelievable is that with FS9, some add ons a nd a decent system, we are pretty darn close.
January 2, 200521 yr Author Well not really. This is a compressed video thus it looks so blurry. You can
January 2, 200521 yr I think we are pretty close, if you throw some decent add-on scenery and aircraft into the equation. I fired up FS9 today, and showed my Dad (who's never seen it in action) around a Ryanair PMDG 737-800 at UK scenery's Liverpool airport. He was amazed, and by the time we shot an approach from the VC, I set off the GPWS on purpose and he was mesmerized. He pointed out how far things had come from the first flight sim I had as a kid, one called '747' for the BBC model B computer! It ran on a cassette, and was just a load of dots for a panel and lines for the runway - and it was flamin' impossible to fly! That must have been in the mid 80's. Now in 20 years look what we have. Even FS98 looks comical and cartoonish now, imagine what we'll have by FS2010, I can't wait!
January 2, 200521 yr Well in the 90's YES the processing power doubled every year. BUT NOT LATELY. Intel is in a MAJOR SLUMP! Time for Motorola or someone else to put some fire in the processor market! I have had a 2.5 GHZ for almost two years and the fastest today is 3.4, NOT EVEN CLOSE to performance doubling... And we really need the processing power for one of the most taxing applications ever to run on a computer: Flight Simulation!Barry
January 2, 200521 yr :-eek Excuse me while I pick myself up off the floor, that was nothing short of amazing! WOW!...What was with all the A380s? :-lol Incredible...[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=fritsche&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My work...[/a][a href=http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?engine_version=5&nr_of_rows=255&sort_order=photo_id+desc&first_this_page=0&page_limit=15&&emailsearch=Fiveholer%40sbcglobal.net]See me at Airliners.net...[/a][a href=http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=6673]Also at jetphotos.net...[/a]
January 2, 200521 yr Spectacular movie! I think we have become too accustomed to what FS2004 has to offer. Immediately after you show it to somebody who hasn't even touched a flightsim before they can't believe their eyes, even though we know that there is many improvements that can be made to resemble some form of reality. I think that MS have in the past, underestimated their target market of professional flight simmers. Hopefully they won't let us down AGAIN!!! :-hah
January 2, 200521 yr Author Well show your grandfather LOMAC or Far Cry or Half Life 2 and then show him FS 2004 and he will think it looks old ;). It
January 2, 200521 yr Most of the wishes in this video concern outside views and visual effects. Nice-but not on my priority list for the next version. How about the inside view-the cockpit? The basic instruments in Fs basically haven't changed since Fs98-while the outside views have increased in reality 100X we are still flying with cartoonish basic instruments, and a huge assortment of common instrumentation found on a good deal of aircraft missing. How about giving same attention to the inside-which has already been given to the outside? How about instruments that match and react like their real world counterparts. I am not speaking of fancy crt jet displays which third parties have produced already-but Altimeters, Artificial horizons (different makes and models), Hsi's, Vor's-Manifold pressure/fuel flow gauges (how can this combo instrument be missing for constant speed props for so long?),autopilots, transponders, an assortment of common gps models - stormscopes, rnav units-the common stuff you find in most GA airplanes and up. Live xm weather downloads into multifunction displays would be a nice future touch, as an assortment of common handheld gps's.It is frustrating that without being an xml programmer-that I still can't get a cockpit to function or look closely to the real planes I fly. As a flyer-I am more concerned with simulating what I spend the majority of time doing-which is inside! :-)Imho-the most neglected part of FS for many years. Since this is the part we look at and fly the airplane from-more important than many of the "outside" things and effects already in Fs for many versions while the basic instrumentation hasn't changed.....(the semi garmin gps is a nice start-one of the only changes in years).I understand some of these instruments (gps's) take lots of programming and might be best left to 3rd parties-but an artificial horizon that looks like a real one-or a manifold gauge/fuel flow gauge found in 95% of all constant speed aircraft?Smooothness of instruments is a whole other needed issue-how about giving the end user the option to select between this vs. "eye candy"-a way of jacking up the number of instrument refreshes vs. other things .Reflective ice on the runways-beautiful to look at. How about before that though-ice on the wings-rime and clear-that accumulates, can be seen, and has the aerodynamic effect we dread. I fly with that concern a good part of the year where I live on almost every flight. The ice is usually removed off the runways fairly quickly. I'd vote for wing ice first. My thoughts anyway-the video does look great though....I just hope fs2006 isn't just more prettiness for screenshots.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
