Will My System Run the NGX at a Decent Frame Rate?

Featured Replies

Hi all! I'm considering purchasing the PMDG 737NGX, as I hope to add a higher degree of realism to my simulations, and want to venture into the world of VATSIM. However, I am slightly concerned about my system's ability to run the aircraft at a reasonable frame rate. I've read reports that my caliber of processor and graphics card may be unable to handle the NGX's degree of graphical complexity. I have before only used the default aircraft, and I have had my graphics and traffic sliders in the ultra high position, with few problems. The sim does not often lag. Not sure of the FPS, would have to check. Below are my system specs [not sure if its a complete list, I am not a computer expert! :-)]; any recommendations as to whether the add-on will work reasonably?

Thanks for the input!

Windows 8 64-bit

Processor: Intel Core i5-3210 CPU @ 2.50 GHz

RAM: 6.00GB (5.89 GB usable)

Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics 4000

Not a half bad set up, I have less then that and it runs fine, as long as you don't mind it not being completely smooth, it will be at like 20-30 fps. rough estimate. You can always mess with the settings of FSX, or install lower res textures of the NXG.

Instead of getting highly complex addons you need to get the boring stuff done first (upgrades for computor) I am going to be honest the system you have is not going to run FSX well at all you need a overclocked I5 and a seperate graphics card to even think about flying into complex airports with highly advanced airplanes if you have Intel graphics running the chip demotes some of its power to the graphics engine. So you are really runny a I3 at 2.2GHz roughly so go out and spend some money and get a nice cpu and gpu YOU CAN NOT RUN FSX ON A 600$ COMPUTOR. If you need any more help about what parts to look into just ask and we will answer.

PC that can run FSX at 30fps average with addons-

I5 4670K (OC'd to atleast 4.0GHz)

GTX 760

Z87 Motherboard

600w PSU

8gb of Vengance 1600MHz Ram

Hm.. Is ram that important? I have a processor that goes to about 2.10, and I dont OC it but i have 8gbs of ram and mine runs well, With PMDG, Scenery's and even REX

you guys show me his setup running-

-opus

-orbx global/vector

-flytampa, flightbeam, FSDT...etc

-pmdg 737, 777, J41...etc

-setting at the ground with a cloudy weather condition

-FSX Maxed out

-REX

getting 30 fps soild i would have to see a screen shot and then we will talk

Actually, I am not planning on running any other addons besides the NGX. Going scenery crazy is not a necessity for me. I just want to have a realistic aircraft that I can feasibly fly on VATSIM. Maybe ActiveSky at some point if absolutely necessary, but certainly not immediately. I was just trying to determine by research whether or not the NGX would be a reasonable purchase with my current system, as I don't have the means to upgrade its specs. It's all about fun to me! I think I'm going to give it a go, as I've read several reports of people with similar specs whose performance with the NGX is fine, and I have had no problems to date running FSX on ultra high graphics settings. Thanks for the input all!

You may want to just get a seperate GPU in the future to take some load off the CPU just like a GTX 650 TI:)

Ok, so it's not 30 fps, never actually measured it. but 10 on average is still bearable. It doesnt seem all that bad. and this is with PMDG ngx, Taxi2gate KMCO, Fsdreamteams GSX and REX 2014-1-11_15-31-10-78_zps7ca10667.png

10 FPS is playable if you like slide shows.

@Topic: You should get REX4, a decent weather engine and you'll really enjoy your NGX - like I do. I rather have 30+ fps and feel the plane and fly it precisely than have a slideshow flying into a detailed airport where you are staring at the runway most of the time anyway.

With kind regards, Bogdan Misko.

Agree. last year I spent mucho denero on MSV2 and airports and I dont think the breaf buzz you get from eye candy is worth the agrivation since 99% of my flying is NGX. Simming is much more satisfing learning a to fly a detailed aircraft correctly. I think this year  I am going to order the T7 manual from PMDG, study it for a month or two then get the plane and focus less on the side bar stuff. And who says you have to run FSX with sliders all the way to the right?

Honestly it isnt that bad. ok, so its not 100% smooth, but I'm still able to enjoy it.

If everything but the plane can be run on very low settings, you should be able to run the NGX just fine and have lots of fun playing the skies. If you want NGX on full settings along with everything else, you will be enjoying a slideshow. It is your call

No, your system will not run the NGX, let alone FSX at all very well. You need to upgrade heavily. By the looks of it your using a laptop?

i7 6700k, GTX 1070 (MSI), 16GB Ram DDR4

Asus Maximus VIII Hero, Corsair H100i v2
