January 12, 201412 yr FTX Vector is a good product, bringing detail to the world outside of Orbx or UTX regions. But my favorite has to be the airport altitude adjustment. It fits right in with any good mesh, I like FSGenesis. And it makes all airports including addon airports have smooth elevation around the airport, no more runways on plateaus ruining your view.
January 12, 201412 yr Agreed, am also happy with FTX Global, I have it installed in both FSX and P3D2. Some issues that need to be worked out in the P3D2 version. January 12, 201412 yr Author FTX Global is a must too, but you have to get the 1.1 and 1.2 patches otherwise its a jumbled mess of some default textures. And with ASNext, PMDG, Rex 4 and so many others we have gone into a new great evolution of FSX.
January 12, 201412 yr Does Vector pork Default FSX mesh causing airport canyons and plateaus and spikes in the terrain in other areas around the globe? Chris Camp
January 12, 201412 yr Author I have no idea, where would I look? I have all the FSGenesis mesh so I don't believe I run any default.
January 12, 201412 yr So are these FTX Vector airport altitudes fixes the same as the AFM (Airport Flattening Meshes) that Pilot's includes with their FS Global Ultimate terrain mesh products? If so, then they are not always a good solution and I certainly wouldn't apply any blanket airport altitude "fix" to all 25000+ airports. I found, for example, that using the AFM on KABQ Albuquerque actually flattens the terrain around the airport so much that it looks unrealistic. I ended up uninstalling this because I'd rather see a slight airport plateau then have the whole area for hundreds of meters outside the airport leveled to the point where it looks unnatural. Thanks. January 12, 201412 yr Until recently I was using vector with default FSX mesh and in the West U.S there are so many issues and errors I don't think they could ever fix them all. I installed Pilots for FSX and so far I haven't found any errors at all so far. "Why, he just jumped into the air and kept right on going."
January 13, 201412 yr Not exactly.. I was not exactly happy to have found out after purchasing Global and Vector that they don't model residential roads and have no intention to add them because "residential roads have been left out on purpose at this stage, as too many roads will render FS very ugly on low approach/overfly. all roads will merge into one grey patch. even worse at night. one lighted patch."... practically leaving the area I live in completely roadless. Although UTX does model all roads, it does not cover the earth. -Damien Damien Furtman Hovering Hellion
January 14, 201412 yr I have FTX Global and thinking of skip Vector - just wait for LC products. What will I loose in this case? Frankly I don't clearly destinguish between Vector and LC. So, is vector "must have" in FTX line?
January 14, 201412 yr Any idea if Vector only works with the compatible FSGlobal FTX edition or would it also work with the previous product, example : FSGlobal 2010? I got FSGlobal 2010 ages ago and I don't want to spend delicious amounts of money on it agan just to pick up an edition that makes it slightly less ugly to use with Vector.

So, is vector "must have" in FTX line? Vector gives you real life roads, rivers, coastlines, etc. and OpenLC will rearrange the ground textures in a more realistic way plus it comes with more region specific textures. The both require FTX Global to be installed and all three add ons complement each other and have nothing in common. The only difference between your version of FSGlobal and the new one is that you can download the latter (yours only came on DVD) and that it includes mesh for Canada. So I wouldn't waste money on that new version because your version is the 2nd best option there is. Vector works with ANY mesh add-on btw although results may be a bit different.
January 14, 201412 yr So I wouldn't waste money Thanks Jeroen. I'm a little more at ease with this Vector product now and I might just get into the FTX store and pick up a copy.

January 16, 201412 yr Vector gives you real life roads, rivers, coastlines, etc. Does not give you every single road. only major roads. Residential roads were left out. -Damien Damien Furtman Hovering Hellion
