January 30, 201412 yr RTWR Team Members, I propose that we get together on the AVSIM teamspeak server to discuss issues and ideas regarding the upcoming race. I encourage any new members to attend if possible so that you can meet the team and get a feel for how we collaborate in a group setting. If the proposed date/time is a problem, please propose an alternate and we can arrive at a consensus. In addition to some strategy and planning topics that I will not mention in this public post there is an important issue we need to discuss. AVSIM Forum Availability Issue The race general rules state: The baton may be claimed and relinquished only through each team’s official public forum. Pilots must relinquish the baton upon completing a leg. Upon successfully completing a leg, the baton holder must post a message in the forum If the forums are not available to race participants at the time of baton exchange then we are going to start accumulating wait time. In addition to the lost time (which could turn out to be significant) there is the frustration and added stress of having to switch to an alternate forum, not to mention race tracking & leg validation by race admins. I was going to contact Tom about this but I don't think there is much he will be able to do prior to the race. This problem has been repeatedly brought to his attention and his attempts to improve performance have not been successful so far. I think we need to figure out what we are going to do. | Windows 11 | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | i9-14900K | RTX 4090 | 64GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 | 4TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | 2x 4TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | CORSAIR AX1600i ATX Titanium | LG C2 42 Inch 4K OLED |
January 30, 201412 yr Good idea. I will definitely be there. Klas Member of AVSIM's Around the World Race Team
January 30, 201412 yr I think we need to figure out what we are going to do. Simplest thing would be to use Eamonn's... would it not?
January 30, 201412 yr Yeah I thought the rules allowed for a backup forum for a just in case, but only for the periods the main forum is down. S-O-H and flightsim both have backup forums.
January 30, 201412 yr I was going to contact Tom about this but I don't think there is much he will be able to do prior to the race. This problem has been repeatedly brought to his attention and his attempts to improve performance have not been successful so far. At this point in time, I don't believe that bugging Tom any further would do any good at all. According to a post last month, they know exactly what the source of the problem is (the MySQL server), and have a plan on how to go about fixing it. However, it is NOT going to be a quick or simple fix, and I think it's safe to assume that there is zero chance it will be fixed before the race (I think spring or summer was the estimated timeline for this fix, if I remember correctly). We're just going to have to deal with the stability problems and hope it has minimal impact... As for the meeting... If I can be awake at that time I'll be there... January 31, 201412 yr Seems it happened when I was suspended from the forum for a month back in June by Stephen for having an "abusive, vicious & disgraceful attitude"... (my sentence was then commuted to something like a little over a week). To see the atrocity of my "high crimes" against humanity, see the TWA 800 thread in Hangar Chat.
