Popping up Autogen

Featured Replies

Hello fliers, I have noticed that as I fly around medium size cities and even the country side I see the autogen pop up just in front of me. I have the sliders setting at about medium and I have HT enabled with AM setting of 84. I have FTX Global and Vector add on. Is this normal for P3D just as it does in FSX? Are there some settings that I can adjust to decrease the popping autogen?  Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Anybody have any ideas?

I know of no popping autogen in Prepar3D version 2.2... none. I don't know of anyone else ever saying this is happening in v2.2.

You certain you're running v2.2 and you didn't do any silly FSX-era tweaks to your install?

I don't notice popping autogen at daylight. But what I notice is the pop up of the ORBX vector lights right in front of the aircraft when flying at night. This is really annoying as I never see any city lights in front of me when flying at night. Only when you fly right over the cities the lights appear. Do others have that problem as well? BTW: LOD is set to max.

Hello, have not done any scenery tweeks to the config file just Afinity Mask. I don't know if Orbx scenery has anything to do with it? I think I'll just back off on the scenery sliders a bit. Have not made any adjustments to the LOD. It is set a default.

I have a fresh installation of P3Dv2.2....no patches...a full V2.2 install.

I do see some autogen pop up but nothing like FSX, P3Dv1.4 or even v2.0.

It's more gradual....not huge areas popping up but smaller areas that make

it much less obvious.

No popping here.  I do see autogen "batches" populate out in the far distance ... perhaps increasing Level of detail radius = Max (perhaps you have this set too low and hence why you see the autogen batches populate close to your view point).  Note: do NOT set this value via P3D.cfg.

Cheers, Rob.

You may want to try setting all logical cores on with AF=85 instead, since you have HT enabled. That is what I have set on my comp with better results.

I did some testing and have to add something to the information above: The pop up of the vector lights close to the aircraft only becomes apparent, when flying at high altitudes. Let's say > 15,000 feet. When flying low and slow everything is fine. I just did a flight around Lugano and compared it to Rob's Youtube video. All looks the same. However, when I fly at high altitude the problem becomes apparent. Is it that the LOD is a radius around the aircraft in which the autogen is displayed? Meaning that when you fly higher than the distance on the ground at which you see the autogen decreases? I hope you understand what I mean...

Changed AM to 85 as Marc suggested and adjusted my sliders a little and just see batches of autogen way out in the distance now as Rob mentioned. No pop-ups just below anymore. I can live with this. Thanks everyone very much.

Let's say > 15,000 feet.

Ah ok, in that case you are probably correct and this is by design ... I can verify tonight using 15,000 ft.  I believe the idea is that at 15,000 feet one isn't going to realistically be able to make out trees and building geometry details ... (assuming buildings trees are close to sea level) this almost 3 miles up.  Lights however will have a different visual range, but I believe they are bound to the AutoGen and hence under the same LOD radius restriction.

You might want to bring this topic up in the LM forums for a feature enhancement request ... since VAS has improved dramatically with v2.2, maybe LM will consider allowing us to increase that distance -- but given the complaints about OOMs in the past versions, that may not happen until 64bit development happens where LOD radius could be extended considerably with no 32bit VAS limit.  I know the folks that produce photo realistic scenery would really like to see an option for increased LOD (terrain anyway).

With that said, you might want to "tweak" (I hate that word, people just run with it) the Prepar3d.cfg.  Specifically

[sCENERY]
POP_FREE_AUTOGEN=1
AUTOGEN_BATCH_LOD=2
AUTOGEN_TREE_MAX_DRAW_DISTANCE=9500.000000
AUTOGEN_TREE_MIN_DISTANCE_TO_LOD=2500.000000
IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5

Increasing these values will obviously put more stress on your system (both VAS and fps).

Cheers, Rob.

Agreed.  I much prefer the word "optimize", as in optimize settings or optimize the configuration file.

Tweak just sounds too much like twerk, or twerd, which comes as a result of excessive twerking.

I made a quick video of the same area at 15,100 ft ... I don't know if this is what you wanted me to test out?  Skip to 3:50 mark to see the AutoGen and lights at dusk.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob, are you using ASN weather engine?  Just a quick question, does the AM setting in your video use all cpu cores and is HT enabled?  Great video as always. Nice job!
