April 28, 201412 yr Just a quick question. My FSX.cfg looks pretty cluttered without any spaces between categories. [GRAPHICS] [sOUND] [Display] etc. etc. Is it okay to create a space between each category or do I need to keep them as they are in order for FSX to properly function? April 28, 201412 yr Administrators Spaces sound good to me. It shouldn't hurt anything and it will be easier to see the different catagories. April 28, 201412 yr Spaces are fine, save a copy after you modify the cfg in case you have to rebuild a new one at some point Jay
April 28, 201412 yr I agree with Jay. I've added spaces on more than only one occasion, because I think it's by far easier to read and navigate through the file. But as said above, make a backup copy before changing such essential and possibly already optimized files in case something goes wrong. Florian

April 28, 201412 yr Well, actually a CR is a character and can be read just like any other character as well as line feed character. When I used to code using Delphi (pascal), configuration files had an "ini" extension which was replaced by a cfg extension down the road. I think ini extensions are still used though for different applications. Same thing really just a different extension. . When you hit the return key on the keyboard, it forces a carriage return and a line feed. But I did have a typewriter way back though LOL Bob Officially retired
April 28, 201412 yr Author Folks, thank you for your valuable wisdom! I will add "carriage returns" to my CFG today. Kay Nemoto Prepar3D version 3Win7-64 bit

April 29, 201412 yr I wish I could color code the sections. You could probably do something like that if you used a smart word processor like MS Word or even a spreadsheet and then export it as a cfg file. Never tried it but I bet it would work. Bob Officially retired
April 29, 201412 yr Commercial Member I wish I could color code the sections. If you open the .cfg in Notepad++ and set the language to "MS INI file" it makes each section expandable/collapsible by clicking the "+" signs near the bracketed sections. Sorry color coding is minimal, the headers turn blue is all, but it does help stop everything from running together. I add the line breaks between sections too, in fact I made a macro for Textpad I call "CFG tidy" that will do that with just one click, I use it for my .cfgs, FSUIPC.ini, etc. and I've never seen where it causes any problem.
