April 29, 201412 yr Hello! In this video at like 7:15 he picks BCN Which is his first way point....I use the same site as him to plan routes and I want to go KJFK to KBOS and my first airway is NEWES and I dont get anything like NWS or so on my KJFK Departure page. Im sure everything is right with the FMC since so far I only did the pos Intl and stuff but which do i pick? BEETE3 DEEZZ3 GREKI3 HAPIT3 JFK1 MERIT3 SKORR3 None of those look like what is in my route planner ( http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ ) So please tell me, how do I know what to pick in the Departure page? Thanks I changed the altitude to 5000 in the route planner and it made my first airway WRENN and thats not in the Departure page too
April 29, 201412 yr Commercial Member So please tell me, how do I know what to pick in the Departure page? Have a look here. Pay particular attention to how the SIDs/STARs are evaluated/selected: Kyle Rodgers
April 29, 201412 yr Author Wow thats a long video. Thats you who made it right? Awesome. Ill be sure to hit the like button, already subbed. So this will tell me which one of those to use or what because I also need to know some usage of the FMC. I know about sids and stuff I just need a good tutorial on the FMC and which sids and stars to pick. I mean im not gonna spend hours for one short flight IN FSX

Basically, you'll need to take a look at each one and find out which one has a fix that gets you onto your route. Depending on where you're getting your routes, it might not be right at all, which makes those departure procedures tough to deal with (except the JFK1, which is just a vectored approach). April 29, 201412 yr Author I used flight aware for like U said and put KJFK to KBOS and stole a B737 route The first airway is MERIT and THAT IS in my JFK DEPARTURE I also need tok now which trans to use cause the V3 and V419 stuff i dont know where to put
April 29, 201412 yr Commercial Member The first airway is MERIT MERIT is a fix. Airways start with J, V or Q. THAT IS in my JFK DEPARTUREI also need tok now which trans to use The JFK1 is a vectored departure - no transitions, and you do not fly it in LNAV. More learning for ya: Kyle Rodgers
April 29, 201412 yr Author Ah ok. So for the flight im gonna do soon, I pick JFK1? I wanted to flight In L nav and V nav though. So what do I pick for my departure? Also, do I skip the 49 minute video you sent and watch the sids and stars one? since that is what Im confused about. Also, You said J V or Q and I have none except J for JFK1
April 29, 201412 yr Ah ok. So for the flight im gonna do soon, I pick JFK1? I wanted to flight In L nav and V nav though. Depends on where you wanna fly to. You don't pick a departure based on whether you'll fly it on LNAV or not. It's important that you understand the different levels of automation and when to rely on which one. If you fly on a vectored departure (like JFK1, or pretty much any standard departure in the US), you're gonna be getting vectors. And the only way around vectors is either hand flying or using HDG SEL. Also, do I skip the 49 minute video you sent and watch the sids and stars one? since that is what Im confused about. You don't skip it. You watch it. Hahah, just watch them both okay? You'll learn a lot and enjoy them. Also, You said J V or Q and I have none except J for JFK1 Your problem is not the PMDG NGX. Your problem is more on the basic level. You don't seem to know the basics on flight planing, routes and IFR procedures. No offence, but you need to get to grips with those before jumping onto the NGX. April 29, 201412 yr Author I already got the NGX so that wont make a difference Yeah, well, how old do you think I am? 20? I am still learning so yep. Its 1 am here so I will continue the videos tomorrow. My main questions are on the FMC. Like on the RTE page where it says VIA AND TO, does everything there have to start with a J V OR Q as in do airways go into the via part, what goes into the TO page, so yeah , I need to learn a lot and Kyle''s videos do teach very well but i need to see someone/him put it into an FMC in the NGX like kyle, If you made a video of a full flight from KJFK TO KBOS in the NGX for a change, I would see which routes you use and how you use them.
April 29, 201412 yr You cannot fly entire VNAV/LNAV as MERIT 3 Departure requires ATC vectors. (If you want to fly via MERIT fix). I would suggest to just enter take off runway and use HED SEL to MERIT fix. Lj. April 29, 201412 yr Author I used to use the heading selector only and talk to ATC but now I dont talk to atc (i only have the fsx stock one) Should I be talking to ATC cause everyone with the NGX doesnt seem too....So when do I use LNAV and VNAV and when do I NOT use them. You see, I dony know that MERIT 3 needs ATC vectors....so much to learn...when will i be able to set up the NGX FMC and flight like how I did in tutorial 1 :( I know how to start the plane from cold and dark and ALL OF THAT....Just the FMC and routing issues :(
April 29, 201412 yr I already got the NGX so that wont make a difference Yeah, well, how old do you think I am? 20? I am still learning so yep. Its 1 am here so I will continue the videos tomorrow. It's got nothing to do with age mate. It's just knowledge. You either have it or you don't. If you don't, you go ahead and learn, simple. We're hear to help you in the process of learning Like on the RTE page where it says VIA AND TO Under VIA you put airways or procedures like SIDs or STARs. In the US airways might only be J, V or Q, but all over the world airways can have different names. An airway is a "line" that connects two fixes. "NCAD" and "UN857" are different real airways. Under TO, you put fixes. Fixes are latitude/longitude points with a name associated to them. Fixes can be VORs, Airports, Waypoints etc. TO are "points" and VIA are "lines" connecting those points. If you made a video of a full flight from KJFK TO KBOS in the NGX for a change He won't do a video addressing YOUR specific problem. He does a video that addresses MANY "generic" problems. Give a man a piece of bread and he'll eat for one day. Teach him to bake his own bread and he'll eat forever. April 29, 201412 yr Author I also went from the FSX STOCK 737 cockpit and controls only using VOR LOC and APP and heading to do ILS landings cause LNAV AND VNAV were not useable of course. Yeah I wasnt asking him to make a video, i was giving you an idea of how I prefer to learn. A change of the quote you just gave Show a man how to use an FMC and plan routes for a flight and He will use it once (Just like how I used it perfectly from the Tutorial 1), teach a man how to set the FMC up and plan routes and he will use that forever I can learn fast, I just need a good starting point.
April 29, 201412 yr You should learn procedures first. I suggest Pilot Edge IFR Wokrshop videos (here's the first one, follow related links at YT for next parts): Then, you should learn how to build your own routes, and how to use tools available to you online for free. For that you can use kyle's video. Only after that, try to learn and understand FMC functionality, because there's no point clicking buttons just because you saw that in some YT tutorials, without understanding what you actually do. It is time consuming process, but at least someone built video tutorials and digested thousands of pages into few hours of video. April 29, 201412 yr Author I just thought of something..Maybe i should do the NGX tutoiral 1 flight again but use a route planner for that same route and see where they put each of the airways and how it all works....that should help. Also,2.3 hours? Sadly, I dont have time for that as its been busy here. because there's no point clicking buttons just because you saw that in some YT tutorials, without understanding what you actually do. ^ So true. I need to go to bed now. before I leave...for routing, flight planning and finding the airways sids and stars i need for a flight, which sites do you all recommended?
