Traffic addon preference (& their impact on performance)

Featured Replies

I hear ya, Sportsfan.  It was kind of a toss up, but I have a feeling your system (Intel i7, 4.4 Ghz, etc.) is just not gonna feel stuff l like my modest little system.  For the time being, until I build my own PC, I'm gonna stick with the one that offers a low res version -- which means in theory I get to see as many planes flying around with for the same hit to my performance, but the aircraft won't be quite as detailed.  And that's ok.  For now.

Yikes, I think that might be a tad over my head at the moment, but perhaps I'll try to figure it out.  Also, looks like it needs a registered version of FSUIPC, which I don't have yet.  (Did I mention I'm a newbie?) ;)

Thanks everyone for you suggestions!

I agree around the same speed as you i5 4.2, and I would much more prefer optimized low res models and more of them.  I mean, I'm only ever within a half mile or of aircraft when I'm taxing or in the pattern (which is when I care about the traffic the most) around and that's just fine with me.  When you are in the air most planes are just pixels in the sky.

Anyone tried this: ###ai

Free, and worldwide apparently (though not sure why they have Europe in the name if it's worldwide).

Removed link, as this is is pirated software

Anyone tried this: ###ai

And supposed to be pirated freeware, as in the people behind ###ai did not ask for permission to use the models, liveries etc. from the original authors.

Well that's just bad sportsmanship! Thanks for letting me know though, I won't bother :)

Hi

I have no probs with MTX + 360 (which if I am not mistaken is an ad on/upgrade for FTX)

Running AI at 100 % will kill frame rates on most comp's ( 40/50% ) Remember that with FTX the longer your flight is running the more AI builds up in the virtual skies FTX needs time

Hope this helps you understand traffic AI and FSX

Woah, you mean longer flights -- where I assumeing you run into more that need to get generated -- are inherrantly more hard on your system be AI is creating more flights ... cumulatively?  Is this true of all the traffic programs?  (Maybe I'm confused.)

I think as you pass planes in the sky eventually they "disappear". I just did a flight from KSFO-KEWR and there seemed to be a group of planes with me within 40 miles or so almost the whole flight. Another thing I like about UT2 is that you can stop traffic/ or clear the traffic around you in case you're flying into a heavily congested airport and don't want one of the other planes cutting you off or something.

I didn't look to see if MTX has any option that like but maybe it does.

No it doesn't unfortunately. But you can via fsuipc. Not sure how you do it though :)

BTW, you can run MTX 54C by selecting 2012 schedule. Save having to re install 54B

Yeah, the 2013 traffic creates problems for people apparently and it's best to revert back to 2012 apparently.

Well, even if MTX does a more hard-to-figure-out solution for congested airports like UT2 does, that's  definitely not a problem I have.  My poor old system can barely run at 20% of the traffic running w/ out it becoming painfully slow.  (And I have a feeling that's not bc of the software, but just my hardware.  Oh well!)
