June 7, 201411 yr Commercial Member Addons using textures incompatible with DX10, can show up blank white in the sim under DX10. You have to make sure you get addons that are DX10 compatible, or are fixable with SteveFX. An obviously noticeable hike in performance can be gained from DX10. June 12, 201411 yr Author So, for a reference under this topic, could you (top simmers of this forum:) ) please briefly tell about your FSX addons? I am not sure if there is one other than this topic. sorry. Also this would be a fine reference for those who want to start FSX with quality addons.
June 12, 201411 yr Can we see above 23 fps if we want to use one of the Texture, Scenery , Traffic, ground and weather addons each other Who can answer that minimum which exact Cpu + GPU combination can run above 23 fps? thanks i-7 4770K and GTX770, coupled with a good quality Z87 motherboard and 8GB of fast memory. June 20, 201411 yr Author Hello. Could you pls comment for my favorite payware addon lists. I am not sure which one is not necessary , or which one is conflicting with another addon. Option 1 ------------ FS GLOBAL ULTIMATE (I am not sure if others do the same job with this addon) ORBX UTX & SCENERY TECH FTX GLOBAL BASE & VECTOR FS GENESIS SOME AEROSOFT AIRPORTS REX4 TEXTURE DIRECT & ASNext AIVLASOFT EFB & PFPX MY TRAFFIC 2013 Option 2 -------------- FS GLOBAL ULTIMATE ORBX UTX & SCENERY TECH GEX FS GENESIS SOME AEROSOFT AIRPORTS REX4 TEXTURE DIRECT & ASNext AIVLASOFT EFB & PFPX MY TRAFFIC 2013
June 21, 201411 yr First of all, there's no such thing as ORBX UTX and/or Scenery Tech. I'll summarize the categories of your addons to make it a bit easier to see what might be conflicting (conflicting things are marked red): Ground textures: FTXG Base of option 1 or GEX of option 2 - no conflicts there Vector: UTX and FTXG Vector - they would be conflicting, but it appears you can switch off the Vector part of UTX (don't quote me on that, though) Landclass: UTX and Scenery Tech, but UTX has the advatage of featuring vector data as well; if you want all from one hand, you might also want to wait for ORBX openLC, which will be released step-by-step, but I don't know when. Mesh: FS Global Ultimate or FSGenesis Sky textures: REX4 Weather engine: ASN Flight planning: PFPX Tools: EFB AI: MT2013 Best regards, Florian
June 21, 201411 yr I concur with Florian. Instead of configuring conflicting addons to work with each other, I'd rather pick only one of the alternatives, though. That's a big and expensive shopping bag, after all. What happened to AVSIM
June 21, 201411 yr ASN next, REX for textures, MSEv2, A2a, skyvector, carenedo, pen paper compass, coffee.
June 21, 201411 yr I would go for- FTX Global-ground textures FTX Vector- roads and rivers in correct locations FSGlobal2010-Mesh Data for the whole world Active Sky Next- Good simulation of accurate real time and historic weather. EZdock Camera- customisation of camera views in FSX I would say they're good all round starters to greatly improve FSX. Gavin Gavin Price
June 21, 201411 yr My add-ons: FS Global Ultimate Mesh Provides the highest-resolution terrain mesh over the largest geographic area currently available. Rather pricey, but worth it IMO. Drawback: initial installation will take many hours. Once installed, FSX will pause at the "loading terrain 6%" point for approximately 2-3 minutes. On my system, this long pause only occurs the first time I load FSX after a system re-boot, subsequent re-loads (without rebooting) go much quicker. Another drawback: Ultimate mesh will cause some airports - particularly add-ons - to appear on "aircraft carrier" plateaus. FSDT KLAS is the worst offender on my system. SceneryTech landclass - all worldwide areas. Relatively inexpensive. A replacement landclass is a must, as the default FSX landclass is just plain "wrong" in many areas. (The American Midwest appears as mostly dry brown grassland in default FSX landclass for instance). I will replace the SceneryTech landclass with the new ORBX GlobalLC region-by-region as it becomes available. ORBX Vector. Provides roadways, bridges, water bodies and coastline enhancements, urban LC improvements, as well as accurately-placed golf courses, parks, etc. I used to use Ultimate Terrain (UTX) which is a similar product. UTX is a mature product, which has been made relatively bug-free through a series of service packs, but does not appear to be scheduled for any major enhancements in already-released regions. Vector is still in active development. The product, as it now stands, does have some problems, (airport elevation issues in some locations, graphic artifacts in some locations etc.) but it IS being constantly improved, and I am willing to stay with Vector to see where ORBX takes it. ORBX GlobalFTX worldwide terrain texture replacement. The competeing product is GEX. I have used both, and prefer ORBX - especially since it is designed to work hand-in-hand with Vector and the upcoming ORBX GlobalLC landclass. Either product (ORBX or GEX) is a substantial improvement over the default FSX terrain textures. ASN weather. I have used them all - Active Sky, Opus, and FSGRW. All provide major improvements to the default FSX "real" weather, but ASN is by far the best in my experience. I use the new (free) Vpilot client for flying on VATSIM. Lightweight, easy to install and configure, works much better than Squawkbox or FSINN (both of which are no longer updated or supported by their original authors). PFPX for flight planning. THE best program for this purpose in my opinion. As far as add-on aircraft, my favorites are the PMDG 777, NGX, MD-11, the Aerosoft Airbus X (AXE), the Leonardo Maddog MD-80, and FeelThere Embraer 175/195. Although I work on corporate jet aircraft for a living, the only business jet add-on I currently own is the Eaglesoft Citation X, due to its advanced systems and accurate flight model. For GA, my favorite aircraft is the RealAir piston Duke V2. I also enjoy the Milviz Cessna 310. All of this runs quite well on a 3-year-old Sandy Bridge I7 2700K CPU OC to 4GHz, with an Nvidia GTX770 4 GB video card, running under Win 7 64.
