Micro-Stutter, no rhyme, no reason...just plain WEIRD!

Featured Replies

This is what is killing it for me. I ain't gonna to move across to P3D and leave my lovely smooth FSX behind. OK, I know there are many benefits of P3D over FSX, but something as intrinsically engrained in every flight, such as smoothness, is a big deal for me. I wonder how many other guys share similar concerns and whether or not these concerns will be addressed by LM...

Hi Rockliffe, did you try adaptive vsync at Nvidia Control Panel? While not eliminated completely, this reduced my stutters significantly,

Hi Emin, sure. While it has had a definite positive effect, I'm still finding P3D not as smooth as FSX. This is with no shadows, normal AG and HDR switched off!

I agree with you on this point. Fsx is super smooth at 30fps.

Emin, have you heard anything in the pipeline from LM regarding this particular issue and whether it's being addressed in V2.3?

One thing that was discovered  was it did not matter for the most part what your hardware situation was, nor the internal graphics settings. Even turning everything down, the stutters were still there.
This is my experience too. If I'm in demanding conditions, over Vancouver or Valdez, 18 or 50 FPS, does not influence the stutters much on my system. It's almost like OP says, P3D has good days and bad days.

Just wanted to report on this thread, that even at a flight of 44-47 FPS  sustained...with peaks into the 70's...I still had very slight micro-stutter throughout the flight. So...this doesn't seem to be an FPS thing.  It's deeper.  LM will address this, I'm sure.   It doesn't blow away immersion by any means...but it is still there in the mix....

Same here.

With the amount of threads and reports on stutter-issues I'm sure LM have noticed and will/are working on it. It's the only serious issue I have with the sim ATM. When we get smoothness it will be absolute ace  B)

Well, LM definitely knows about this but I wonder whether it's possible to make it like fsx without real full screen mode  . As you know P3d has no real full screen mode.

Take it to the extreme, every slider full left.

I then get about 250 FPS (default F22 flight) and ..... stutters.

Then turn on Vsync and triple buffering.....stutters.

Out of those reporting these micro stutters, how many are using ASN? (I know the OP is from his post) I'm still on FSX and have it tuned pretty well for my system with smooth performance, until I started using ASN. The stutters only occur when I'm using ASN, but the benefits of it far out way this so I put up with it. When I used ASE, I had no stuttering at all. This is with the same REX textures at the same resolution (512x512 As you can see from my specs, my system is not a power house.) With Cloud Density set to 12 (When using ASE, I have it set to the default with ASN)  I can get just as much cloud cover with ASE as I can with ASN. Plus with ASN the micro stutters occur whether I have overcast or clear skies. Others using ASN have also reported similar occurrences. I'm wondering if this problem affects P3D users as well when using ASN?

Thanks

I cannot answer for ASN users, I don't have it myself. I use OpusFSX for weather. I did a clean reinstall of P3Dv2 recently, and the stutters were there from vanilla fresh install. I'm currently looking into closing other processes/tasks like antivirus and such to see if that helps. That said, I had butter smooth gameplay for a while with only the AffinityMask tweak. I have not got that performance back since though.

You can get 250 (was that a typo?!?) with the sim full out?  My max, with my published .cfg on the Disney Land 'thread' is 78 at peak.  I have never gone beyond that figure.

250?!?!?!    Jeez......

Yes, I run ASN with every flight and never P3D alone.

Try it without ASN and see if you get the stutters!

Yes..I did.  Same whether ASN is in play, or not...at least on my system.
