August 10, 201411 yr FTX Global/Vector here for me. Soon I will be getting the FTX Global Mesh 2010 or whatever its called. That will be in a big though when I can make myself feel ok for putting down that much money on something I may not use much. I fly in the Southeast area of America a lot, and when I do branch out and shoot up the cost it is only to NY/MA. So no real need for Mesh, but I still want it as I am making plans and learning about flying over in Europe. I did the MSE business and for me, I got GA and FL. I liked it, but sometimes the colors killed me in certain areas. They have tree addons now that help a lot. It adds vegetation to the areas and makes it more 3D. The plus side has been stated above. If you are familiar with the area, it is great! And yes, it does look better than any Autogen out there above 5k. The performance is also awesome once you get past the load screen. The downside for me, is that lower altitudes, and lack of color normalcy. Some areas are great, others you can tell real easy it does not match up very good. William Sequeira
August 19, 201411 yr Hi there, this is my first post so bare with me ;-) I use Orbx Global+vector+Europe and I must say it looks very pretty. But something I noticed is that complete towns have disappeared after installing Europe. The Roads are still where they belong but the village that was there before in P3d vanilla is gone. Since i like flying low vfr it is very confusing. Since I dont have prior experience in the whole flight sim business I wonder if a VFR Pack might help but don't know if I have to deinstall Orbx for that? Perhaps you guys have some advise? Oh and I live in the Aquitaine region in France. Cheers JT
August 22, 201411 yr JT, I would let Orbx know about your findings. OpenLC will certainly get updated on a regular basis and reports like your will be helpful. August 22, 201411 yr Absolutely. If you can give them examples of where things are missing from the landclass or just wrong, especially with something like a screenshot with LAT/LON showing so they know exactly where you are talking about, they will likely address it in the next patch.
August 26, 201411 yr Ok, I will further investigate. I was more concerned that it hat something to do with the Scenery Load Order? [General] Title=FS9 World Scenery Description=FS9 Scenery Data Clean_on_Exit=TRUE [Area.001] Title=Default Terrain Local=Scenery\World Texture_ID=1 Layer=1 Active=TRUE Required=TRUE [Area.002] Title=Default Scenery Local=Scenery\BASE Layer=2 Active=TRUE Required=TRUE [Area.003] Title=ORBX!VECTOR_AEC Local=ORBX\FTX_VECTOR\FTX_VECTOR_AEC Layer=3 Active=TRUE Required=TRUE like here, the Vector comes all the way on the top, then come all the Base Areas, Then some more FTX Vector files in the top hundreds, then Continents and cities, then really late FTX OLC Europe and then only two FTX Global entries. So I was really wondering if i might have screwed up during installation and that there are just certain things either mission or laying over each other? Cheers
August 27, 201411 yr Little update after some experiments: It is Europe OLC that screws it up. I did a full new installation with a new Scenery.cfg. Build my way up and tested every step, Base - Vector-Europe. And it was Europe when the Town disappeared. I could even pause the flight, go into the scenery manager and untick OLC-EU4 (which is France) and all of a sudden the town was back again. Would be interesting to know if any of you had experiences like that as well? I am going to try and post pictures, havent figured out yet how that works here. Cheers Jan
August 28, 201411 yr There we go, with pictures now: Town gone with EuropeLC running Town where it is supposed to be without Europe. I just paused the sim, went into the integrated scenery manager of prepar3d and disabled the Europe part 4 for france, after reloading the scenery textures the town was back. I find that very strange and am wondering now how many other places might be effected like that? Cheers JT
August 28, 201411 yr You're not doing anything wrong, so you don't need to keep reinstalling and testing. The landclass just isn't accurate there. As before, let ORBX know about any discrepancies you find and they'll almost certainly fix it in a patch. wondering now how many other places might be effected like that? The landclass for the entire world is inaccurate if you zoom in close enough. An entire town missing is on the scale of "needs to be fixed" though.
