Regular FSX refresh...

Featured Replies

How many of you do a regular reinstall/refresh of FSX?  I thinking about doing this annually as my FSX install usually gets bogged down as tim drags on.  One thing that has stopped me is the time involved in getting back up and going, but that maybe less than I think.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

Never done a reinstall.  Can't bear the thought.  I have had two root drive failures and a new computer over the past 7 years.  I just relink FSX (which is located on a separate drive).

I sometimes have to reinstall a few planes though that don't work properly unless they are properly located in the registry.

With all that, my system doesn't get bogged down, whatever you mean by that, not sure.

Mine is purring along, never better even though I experiemented with Fiber Accelerator, bought it, and now have shelved it as I get better results with my regular setup which is heavily tweaked.

I've never done a reinstall of FSX since I installed it in April '08. I ran the same install on one rig from April 2008 to June 2013. Then in June 2013 I built a new rig and reinstalled and have run that install from June 2013 to now. Although the new install took me almost a month to get everything that I was running on the old rig to the new rig due to the fact that I run a ton of addon airports, sceneries and a lot of planes, but the only planes I jave installed to the new rig are PMDG aircraft since that's about the only ones I fly.

On my old rig I never found the need for a reinstall as I am very meticulous about what I install and how it gets installed. Plus I always make a lot of backups when installing new addons in case sometime goew wrong and I have to revert to the last known good running state.

I always shake my head in disbelief when I hear about people doing reinstalls every few m8nths or years. I'm truly thankful that I have never had to do that considering the amount of stuff I have installed in FSX.

I reinstall everything once or twice a year. Takes a few hours but things run better afterwards and it gets rid of all the stuff you installed and ran once and then forgot about.

I always shake my head in disbelief when I hear people talk about reinstalling anything like it's the end of the world. Sound like you're worrying over virtually nothing.

+1. I reinstall the OS every six months using Acronis (takes about 10 minutes) and then reinstall FSX as well. Anal? Maybe, but it works for me. No issues at all.

The reason most of us don't want to reinstall too often is because there is just too much to install. If I did a complete reinstallation it wouldn't take hrs, it would be days because I have lots of scenery and airport plus tweaks. I have over 300gb of fsx addons backed up. Plus o every reinstallation the hdd gets formatted plus installing windows updates and so on.

I keep my computer in tip top shape so as to avoid any reinstallation. My drives get defraged every to days of a schedule. Right now my gsx is running and looking the best it has ever been. I dread the thought of having to tone reinstallation lol
