August 25, 201411 yr Hello everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying their vacation or at least trying to. I wanted to ask...as for now, i have built a FSX-exsclusive PC. Nothing else in there. Only my beloved FSX. So, i was thinking, since my laptop cannot handle latest games, to install them in the FSX PC but i am afraid of losing performance in the long run. Thing i do not want to because it took me 3 years to build my FSX PC. My question is... 1) Will installing other games (mostly online MMORPG games) in the same PC as FSX decrease performance in the long run? You know as the HDD fills up etc etc I someone with similar experience could answer me i would be grateful! Thanks again for your time reading this everyone! My PC specs: CPU: i5-2500K OC @4.2Ghz GPU: Nvidia 560 Ti 1GB RAM: 16GB Kingston Genesis Motherboard: Asus Maximus V Gene Z77 Cooler: Thermaltake Bigwater 760 Plus PSU: Thermaltake 750W Case: CoolerMaster Cosmos
August 25, 201411 yr It's mostly the installation process that makes changes to your system. I cant tell you much about games in general, but I do know that a game like World of Warcraft, once it's installed, can be backed up and 'reinstalled' by just copying the WoW folder. You can just paste the copied folder back without the installer making any changes to your system. I got this confirmed from Blizzard. I've used WoW next to my sim before without any problems. I guess that other games that work with this same principle should be fine. Cheers! Maarten
August 25, 201411 yr I have a shedload of other games on my fsx drive..and my FSX is running exactly the same as when I first installed it as a vanilla...so, I wouldn't worry too much. If i'm playing another game however...I always reboot before starting FSX
August 25, 201411 yr I don't think it would make any difference. I have a separate drive for FSX but it's more to keep things tidy. I play Luftrasuers on my top monitor while undertaking a long flight, helps pass the time. Ian R Tyldesley
August 25, 201411 yr Tons of other games on my FSX system, all run great with no issues. Only thing that is noticeable is loading times due to a more cluttered and full hard drive but that is to be expected.
August 25, 201411 yr Author Oh i see. By the way would it make any difference if u would put games in the same HDD as FSX or on another? EDIT: I meant same HDD but different partition!
August 25, 201411 yr No difference at all. Like any other computer, if yoyr haed drive is getting full, the slower the load times will be with any program. So, to be safe, keep a minimum of 20% of your hard drive empty. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
August 25, 201411 yr Author Ok so i ll go and add the games i want to the PC and i ll take care of my HDD pretty often then. Thanks for your time guys. Have a nice day. Appreciated
August 25, 201411 yr Please bear in mind that if your HD is an SSD you can ignore things like defrag. Free space is needed for things like TRIM, wear levelling etc... Around the same amount 20-30%. Ian R Tyldesley
August 27, 201411 yr If you have a rudder pedal like me, you might want to disconnect it before you play any other game. Some games detect my Saitek rudder pedal as a controller, and the "default" position on the pedal as controller movement, causing me to lose control over the game. August 27, 201411 yr PCs are swiss army knives and FSX wouldn't stop me from using one as such. Just listen to what people said about keeping some extra drive space and you'll be okay. Ethan Edelson
August 27, 201411 yr Commercial Member Over 3 years without a OS reinstall, 6 hard drives, tons of games, tons of applications, FSX runs just fine. My PC is a graphics workstation / gaming machine. Just keep in mind that you need to be aware of what you're installing in terms of whether it adds background processes. Regular housecleaning and upkeep also is a wise idea.
