Did You Say You Wanted Condensation Effects?

Featured Replies

We uploaded a new video this morning guys!

I remember once seeing a passenger jet starting its engines in small amount of standing water on the ramp. This made sort of  water spout effect like the the 1:04 - 1:06 point in Teaser #3 video. Very nice!

Would be lovely if someone managed to develop the rain effect on windscreen !! :)

Every aircraft is different, and as well, can't be modified without the source model, so that can't happen.

Seems great!

Looks good, a few comments/questions

How is the performance?

What are the criteria for the condensation effects to appear?

Does the strobes always have visual ,spray' in the air? - in clear dry conditions you won't see this fr the strobes - only on the ground exactly as it is in the pmdg default

I would love the effect in damp conditions or as reflections in the cloud - for that it looks awesome.

Some of it might be hard to do in the fsx environment I realize that, but please give us an option on which effects to enable.

I would love new water spray effects, as fsx default makes it impossible to see where you taxi with the nose gear on the er.

With this being said, good job

Hi Sam,

Condensation appears in very specific weather conditions. We are obviously working within the FSX boundaries but we try to push this wall as far as possible.

Strobes only reflect when weather conditions allows for that. Again, we are trying to push the boundaries here!

We are working many things regarding clouds and volumic lighting, more on that later in the development.

We will allow users to choose the effects they want when installing the addon. We understand that users might have different preferences.

We are working on it but no promise.

We have a feeling it's not impossible, we are still trying until we get it right ;)

Hi Keven, do you have a release date? I can feel the Credit Card starting to flutter ^_^ Made me feel cold just watching it, can't wait. It's gonna be a great (but expensive) next couple of months, what with this and FS2Crew 777 and the new ProATC update!

Well, I suppose with a proper effect file and code to detect if it's raining or not (that is, if the sim actually provides a variable for the state of precipitation). That'd be rather neat. That would be quite an effect to get right!

The problem isn't about knowing if it rains or not... we even have access to the position of the wiper switch. The problem comes when we place the effect so close to the aircraft..

Forgot to answer the performance question...

First of all... This is still in early development and performance tests will be conducted while in Beta.

Now... This is a tricky one. You see, doing that kind of stuff with a platform this old is really hard. We have to balance realism/quality with performance. This will not be a problem when we'll port our projects to Prepar3D v2 where we can generate a ton of effects without affecting the performance.

Honestly, having built those effects and shot many videos of them, I see a minor hit on performance while landing on the rain and snow.

So am I correct in thinking this really is only for the PMDG T777 and if thats the case useless for anyone using P3D - lot of sales will be lost I would assume

Following what you said, no sales would be lost considering the PMDG T7 is not compatible with P3D.

Also, I don't understand the notion that the community has "switched" to P3D since the arrival of v2. FSX is still alive and well and still holds the vast majority of the market-share.

Hi Ben

On T777 -You are correct but when its P3D capable there would be more sales

I never stated the community has moved to P3D  but many have and when PMDG supports P3D then that will be a game changer by the way its been very quiet on the PMDG front - somethings going on

If you can make this work in P3D V2.x, I'll pre-order NOW!  The rain/snow in P3D has been left "open to develop" as far as I can see ... and you folks are doing exactly that!

I think emulating rain drops on aircraft windshield is doable at a "generic" level ... the spiral rain/snow effect exists, it would most likely lots of adjustments to that and maybe some changes to shaders.  Or the more involved way ... if a HUD can be projected then so can rain/snow.

Looks promising.

Cheers, Rob.

Please not that this package is only for the T7.

Since every aircraft is different and that we want to give you guys the best quality possible, we are making individual, addon-specific packages.

We will be porting these effects to as much aircrafts as possible in future packages.
