Long pauses during very frequent weather updates

Featured Replies

I've recently just come across this problem the other day trying the latest 10.30 release. I notice that RC2 just came out but have only used RC1 so far.

After taking off on a flight in the FF 757 (haven't had a chance to try other aircraft yet) I notice that the sim will pause momentarily as it updates weather and cloud positions, this has always happened to some degree but never as frequently as it does now. The pauses now last much longer than before, sometimes for up to 15 sec being very disruptive to the flight and the worst ones happen during climbing and descending with almost constant pauses. I'm not sure if anything has changed in this most recent beta release but previously I've never had these issues flying the 757 or any other aircraft, I also had a quick look at Task Manager in Win 7 when these pauses occur and notice all of my CPU cores (4 physical and 4 HT virtual) are maxing out at 100%.

At first I thought it might be SkyMAXX Pro 2.0 as I just recently updated to this but this problem also occurs using the default XP clouds. I thought it might be an issue with the way XP injects default weather now but it also happens when I use EFASS UltraWX.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? At this time I actually get better performance with my FSX DX10 setup.

Yes, I've had the same issue with both SkymaxxPro and the default weather (when I was able to use it). With SkymaxxPro, it has improved somewhat over the releases, but I've noticed that a change in visibility will cause a few stutters or pauses which can be distracting.  I've never had 15 second delays though, I'd say probably the most is 3-4 seconds. However, I use only simpler aircraft such as smaller GA and helicopters. If it continues, then it's certainly worth filing a bug report with LR, I had this same problem in FSX for years, and it was incredibly annoying.

Yes, can unfortunately confirm that too here.

Today it's a cloudy day in Lisbon, and my approach to LPPT rw 21 was very stuttering :-( to the limit of causing negative interference with XView and making it difficult to control my PSX 744 on the final stages of the approach / landing.

It really looked like being related to weather updates / cloud drawing. I am using SyMaxPro v2, but last week when I re-installed XP10.30 and was using b8 I noticed the stutters too with the default clouds...

Not really a show stopper for me, but was not usual in X-Plane 10 for me ....

I get not stutter and I am flying at 10-12 fps with real time weather using Clouds HD.

Your problem could be due skymaxxx but i am not sure as I use only free stuff :).

I would suggest take a flight from Lukla using real weather oh man it looks just freaking great.  P3d looks artificial compared to many places in XPX . Heck why talk of P3d lol i don't have it. I just see videos on youtube.

BTW can anyone hear the thunder ?

Recently I had these stutters too, an didn't know where the hell they came from. But ... have a look -> here.

My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...

I have also "pauses" when the weather are being updated. Iam using efass weather, and default clouds. The pauses are more often and longer now than before.

Just wondering if there is a fix for this issue?

I have just started using X-Plane 10.35 with Skymaxx Pro and have the same issue

Have y'all got 'threaded optimisation' turned off in Nvidia control panel? Having it on is known to cause bad stutters in XP.

Yes I have "Threaded Optimization" turned off,

I rolled back my Nvidia driver to 337.88 and am testing now ......

I've since worked out that the problem causing the pauses I was experiencing was related to X-Camera plugin. Are you using it by any chance? Might be worthwhile to update it to the latest version as it addresses an issue where excessive CPU time was being used.

I did try the X-Camera plugin but I deleted it. I use XHSI, Xsaitek & NOAA plugs.

The issue seems to be more prominent when using live weather.

Rolling back the graphic card drivers seemed to be better but I have had time to fully test
