For those with bad stutters try this

Featured Replies

Some of us with perhaps more modest rigs are plagued by stutters. My situation with v2.3 has been helped incredibly by doing two things.I installed a game booster Game Booster v3.4 from Iorbit..The program has a defrag game option so before firing up prepar I defrag it,Then I launch Game Booster.Try it its free!

Which, I suppose, only makes sense/is suggested unless the game sits on a SSD, right?

Kind regards, Michael

I am not an expert here but my Prepar3D sits on an external HDD

First, all these pseudo tricks are useless, a placebo.

Second, this suggestion is very dangerous for people using the SSD!

My P3D resides on a SSD.  Why would it be dangerous to shut down unnecessary processes not required by the game itself?  That's not a facetious question - I'm interested to know ..because I was considering using it too.

I am sorry .I don't have an SSD and understand this should not be defragged.

an 'option' implies that you can turn it off?

Absolutely .You have to manually defrag if you want to.

My observation is that when i fly in ORBX  PNW it is smooth as butter. I mean really! Like a babies &@($*.... <_<  But when i load up ORBX global, it stutters like Stephen Hawking :P . So if you are doing all your testing in Global you might want to go somewhere else.

Anyway, at this point i have the smoothest flight ever flying around a2a Piper on GTX 780 6Gb SLI and triple monitors + track ir. For the first time it feels like i am actually flying. Got to give some cred to a2a piper and there accu feel pack + fs-force and offf course fsuipc. LOVE IT!!

.. but yes it stutters here and there depending on the scenery. Soooooo, I am Still waiting for 144 fps in the PMDG 737 downtown Manhattan, in 3D whit everything maxed out.

If it ain't broke, i fix it until it is...

Easy to forget the growth in SSD use these days and that

many systems use a hard disk for storage only.

Certainly if you have a hard disk defraging will get the best out of it.

I don't know whether its defragging P3D on my HDD or using a tool to shut down unnecessary processes or both which is helping with stutters but I am very happy!

This is dangerous.

...and why is defragging 'dangerous'?!?!?   I use O and O defrag at boot loading each and every time the computer comes on. It does wonders for system speed, as well as game 'read/access'. It also defrags files that would be locked when at full desk-top.  Great program...have used it for years. Right now, at v18. It also is perfectly safe for SSD (trim management, etc), and will save wear and tear on reads.  Here is is...for those that have common hard drives as well as SSD versions

HDD --> defrag an a reglar base

SSD --> never defrag

Game Booster is a very good program. I use it too.
