Hello Maarten,

many thanks for your reply. I read the manual (could not find "rules"...) and I am very pleased about it. I will have to try it myself.

Regarding weather overlays, I see that SLX can show a full overlay with winds and temperatures, but only METAR information of weather stations.

I was under the impression that Plan-G was able to show METAR-like information (extracted from raw METAR?) along the flight plan by reading the actual weather depicted by ASN. But now I am not sure about this anymore...

Does anybody know exactly where the weather table in plan-G gets its information from, when ASN is running, and especially how does this compare to the way SLX handles ASN weather data?

As a suggestion for SLX, why don't you try to implement cloud and precipitation coverage from ASN as a true overlay in the map? ASN offers its own (gaugeX) where this is already happening, but it would be great to have that same information as a layer in SLX. Any plans for that?

Great work, anyway. I will definitely try it out (I have ORBX products as well, and interested in seeing how the promised integration works).

Cheers,

Giovanni

It would be nice to have an instruments page for things you can't often see easily from the VC but need to see.  Gear lights, oil temperature, flaps, fuel, trim...stuff like that.

Hi Giovanni,

The ASN weather data is stored in a file that contains the METAR strings for each weather station. I could write a METAR decoder of course, but I assume that users interested in flight planning en weather should know how to read a METAR string. If you want to see the decoded weather for an airport, select the airport in the airports window and then go to the weather window: on the right side you will see the decoded weather. Apart from the ActiveSky weather overlays, there are also generic weather overlays for wind, temperature, precipitation and clouds.

thanks, Maarten

Hi Gregg,

I have plans to implement at least part of what you want on the MFD of a G1000 that I'm working on right now. I'm currently busy with the PFD and this is the progress I've made so far:

The G1000 is quite a complex instrument and might take a while before it's completely finished, so maybe I will release it in stages.

thanks, Maarten

Looking Forward G1000! I´m sure this gets another piece of high quality software, also as SLX already is!

Will this G1000, when it´s done, be available as a network-version, using on a Client?

Beside a question regarding the Change Log:

Version 1.1.5440.40634

- changed: Runway with heading closest to current real world wind direction is highlited in green

How can i achieve that? No Runway /Runway Numbers are highlightet in green.

Thank you very much for your excellent work!

Kind Regards,

Thomas

Dear lord, that could be a product all to itself.  (And, perhaps, should be.)  It would be very cool to see things like an AOA indicator.

@Thomas:

  1. the G1000 will come as a separate window within SLX, just like the 'Instruments' window and the 'Radio stack' window. So: yes it will work from a client machine.
  2. the preferred runway (the one with the green background) is determined from the METAR string downloaded from NOAA for the selected airport. If the 'Weather' window displays weather data for the selected airport, one of the runways should have a green background. The weather data is downloaded asynchronously, so it can take a few seconds after you select an airport before this runway is highlighted. The text for this runway is currently unreadable in the dark theme; this will be fixed.

@Gregg:

An AOA indicator is not standard for a G1000, but I think it should be possible to add one.

thanks, Maarten

Hello Maarten,

thank you for reply.

i cannot find the green background /highlighted runway.

The Metar-String in the MAP-Tab Shows as follows:

LOWW 052350Z 13004KT 4000 BR FEW002 BKN005 BKN009 05/04 Q1018 BECMG BKN004

Also the Metar Text differs on the MAP and the WEATHER-Tab:

2014/12/06 20:20

LOWW 062020Z 31007KT 9999 -RA FEW008 BKN010 05/05 Q1019 NOSIG

There is a difference of one day in the Metar.

What is wrong, what did I miss here?

Kind Regards,

Thomas

You're right.  I'd been watching a ton of vids on RW G1000s (which have a fair amount different than what we see in FSX) and mistook one of those differences for AOA.  My bad.

Hi Thomas,

I selected the LOWW airport just a second ago and this is what I see for the current METAR (LOWW 071250Z 31007KT 9999 -RA SCT007 BKN012 05/05 Q1018 WS R34 TEMPO BKN008):

If it still doesn't work in your case, you can try to reset SLX via the backstage menu; maybe that makes a difference.

The METAR in the Weather window is the current METAR downloaded from NOAA and the weather stations METARs are from the ActiveSky data file. That's why you see a difference between the two METARs.

thanks, Maarten

P.S.: the latest version now shows decoded weather information in the weather stations tooltip

Sorry, my mistake. Instead of looking in the "Airports-Tab" -> "Runways", i was searching the MAP...

I don´t have ActiveSky installed. What is the Data Source in this(my) case?

Is it possible to select the source for "Weather-Tab" and Weather-Stations independently (or maybe both the same)?

Thank you!

Kind Regards, Thomas

Hi Thomas,

If you don't have ActiveSky, NOAA is the weather source for both the weather stations on the map and the weather window. I did make a mistake however and the map METARs were for 0:00 hours Zulu time only. This is now corrected.

The preferred runway is now also green on the map b.t.w.

thanks, Maarten
