November 12, 201411 yr Glad to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your flight, Kevin. It's nice when that happens. It makes all the time, effort and money spent on flight simulation seem worth it! November 18, 201411 yr I was just wondering what settings you guys use in the sim itself? Am a new convert to P3D ( have not left FSX yet) and would like to get it running nice and smooth, my system is an i7 4770K 4.2Ghz a GTX 770 2GB , Windows 7 with 8GB Ram My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer
November 19, 201411 yr Author I was just wondering what settings you guys use in the sim itself? Am a new convert to P3D ( have not left FSX yet) and would like to get it running nice and smooth, my system is an i7 4770K 4.2Ghz a GTX 770 2GB , Windows 7 with 8GB Ram Darran, I'm not sure my settings are the best for you to follow since you have a better system than I do. But, I am currently trying DSR set to 1.5x resolution and 33% smoothing. I have VSync set to Adaptive too. That's in the Nvidia control panel or whatever it's called. In the sim, I have the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION 0.01 tweak in prepar3d.cfg. I have FXAA off, VSYNC off, triple buffering not checked, frames set to 22, I believe 4x multi sampling, and 4x for the other one too(forget what it's called off the top of my head). I don't recall the other settings for scenery and everything right now but the biggest impact on performance for me is cloud density. Turning HDR off helps too but I like it so it's on for me. I have cloud shadows on and set to 80000m. Shadows are just for clouds and VC. No terrain, autogen or anything like that as I'm sure my system can't handle any of that. LOD is full right. Scenery complexity is full right. Vegetation autogen is full right. Building is a couple notches left of full right. I have volumetric fog enabled too. That's about all I can remember now off the top of my head. For the most part, even with my 560Ti, I am able to maintain an overall "smooth" experience. Though it is not 100%. When I come into bigger populated areas, I do struggle a bit. It's nothing too bad that I can't fly but it definitely becomes noticeable. Overall though, I'm happy that I made the switch, even with my current system. But, we'll see what Santa brings in the way of a new video card and then next year the rest of the system gets upgraded. Anyway, you should be able to bump things up from my settings I would think and run smooth too. Good luck! Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
November 19, 201411 yr Ok, after a couple days now of being in P3D and I can just say that I have absolutely no regrets!!! This sim is simply beautiful!! I still am trying to cure a small case of the stutters and I am still messing around with what settings do what to my overall experience and to the stutters/smoothness, but OMG, it is amazing how the lighting, the cloud shadows, the water, etc add to the immersion. I've been contemplating this switch for a long time. I remember being on the other side of the fence and seeing the posts about this stuff and the youtube videos saying "yeah, looks nice. But, really? Is it really worth it?". Well, it's one of those things again that until you experience it, you don't know what you're missing. And, once you do, you'll wonder how you've ever lived without and can never go back to life before. I know what I'm getting for Xmas...a GTX970. Can't wait to see what this sim can do w/ a better GPU and ultimately on a complete new system! Until then though, I was afraid this move would be $$ spent on software I wouldn't be able to use until I did get that new system. But, my performance is at least as good as FSX, if not better and the visuals/immersion factor that I have gained just blows FSX/DX10 out of the water. Very glad I had no more patience! Just imagine if you could view it all in glorious 3D? I hope there is a fix for that very soon. I'm so used to the 3 dimensions that I cannot fly in 2 anymore. Keith Sandford.
November 19, 201411 yr It is encouraging to see the i5 2500k is proving to be a good CPU choice. Especially as I have just acquired one to replace my crappy Intel G2030. Interestingly and I suspect this could be because of the crappy CPU, after installing a fresh copy of P3D 2.4 the other day, I added the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION 0.01 tweak and my computer died on its legs, so I took it out. I wonder whether the same will happen after I change to the i5 (with overclock). Tom Tom Why not read some useful tips and tricks - http://forum.avsim.n...22#entry1965722
November 19, 201411 yr IMO, the i5 2500k is one of the best CPUs that Intel have ever produced. Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
