Microsoft FS2004 Study

Featured Replies

Hi,I just got an email from the Flight Sim team for me to install the software to track whatever they need to track. One question before I install it; Has anyone noticed a drop in FS performance running that tracking software in the background? My machine is kinda old and it barely runs FS as it is. I didn't think of that at the time when I signed up.

Which "Flight Sim team" ????Unless I've missed something, this sounds like "spyware" (or even worse) to me. Rob

I havent heard from them yet, but i would be very surprised if i would even notice it when its running.OHN

>Which "Flight Sim team" ????>Unless I've missed something, this sounds like "spyware" (or>even worse) to me. >>Rob I've got the E-mails, but havn't activated the "setup" yet. I'm assuming it's all legitimate, and from the same group that I did the FS2004 beta test with. When I do sign up, then I'm quite sure I'll know it's the real thing. But then I just havn't signed up to see!I've already completed a "survey" for the Microsoft Flight Simulator team which is part of this on going survey.L.Adamson

>Which "Flight Sim team" ????>Unless I've missed something, this sounds like "spyware" (or>even worse) to me. >>Rob Are you for real? Um...the Microsoft Flight Sim team...from Redmond, WA. ...or maybe it's just a trick, and they're really going to take control of your PC and your take over your mind....moooohooohaha....mooohooohahaThis is really just Billg's way of enslaving the masses...the landings have begun. There are endless threads on these forums about how Microsoft doesn't listen to sim users and "why don't they ask us?" Well..hello...they are asking us and this is how they can gather information to help make the next version better. For some people no good deed goes unpunished.

I guess I'll go ahead and install it. What

I got the email advising me of the extended survey yesterday. The email also mentioned where I would need to go to download the monitoring software. I haven`t decided if I want to do that yet. From what I could gather it may just pump the logs of DXDiag back to MS..I think the survey must be genuine because it asks some questions which you would need to appreciate the workings of FS to even know to ask.I think its good that MS give a #### about the community behind what is ultimately an entertainment title (much as it pains me to admit it - hehe). I don`t recall this kind of care from companies like Codemasters.CheersLungs

I haven't received anything about downloading a program - just another survey. I'm wondering if they have different programs going all at once to find out different data. The survey I did last night took an hour to complete so I hope it's legit lol!

I took the survey and d/l the monitoring software. Haven't noticed anything different while flying. After the flight, it sends the dxdiag info and some other flight related info back to MS along with a quick 2 or 3 question survey about the flight. Also monitored the ports when not flying and nothing is being sent to/from my system ( ala spyware).Hopefully will get a chance to fly multiplayer this weekend to see if there's any performance hit there.P4 3.4G Intel 915GAV2G PC3200 RAMLeadtek PX6800 PCIx v/c - slightly overclockedXP Pro SP2VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

I got the mail, with a big survey to complete. It mentions the data collecting software, but there are no links to download it that I can see.

Actually I got this from an inside source at MS. The new program tests your piloting skills and sends this data to Microsoft. If you score 95 or above on their "Index", they then forward your IP address, via E-mail, to all airlines at or near Chapter 11 bankruptcy, for possible future employment opportunities. If your score is from 23 to 94, they discard the results and leave you alone. And if your score is below 23, they permanently turn off crash-detection, clear the skies of all other aircraft, turn off all airport controller voices (simulating panic in the towers), and send new keys to your registry which keeps you at least 25 miles away from all cities except for Washington DC, where you can still fly as close as three miles to the White House. Oh yes... After 24 hours they then send you an E-Mail which contains a "worm". This worm hijacks your game controller and/or yoke and makes it so that if you move anything on it, your system just reboots. And this automatically clears after three months."As Real As It Gets".Toys... (Lecanto, Fl)

You need to click on the Survey link in that email;"This is the survey home page; it contains instructions on how to download and run the installation program to install Watson 2.0 and FSLog.dll in your Flight Simulator 2004 directory. The Web site also contains instructions on how to uninstall the programs when the Survey Study is over or if you decide you no longer want to participate."There are no other links in that email other than the privacy policy statement.

You have a different mail to me, mine does not contain that paragraph. There ARE two links (other than the privacy statement one) that take me back to the start of the survey. When there, it says at the top that 'the user has already submitted data' (because I completed the survey this morning)Regards,Gareth Evans

blah blahi took part and answered all their questions...i was a little disappointed that they didnt ask about graphics (blurries ?)I mostly complained about FS2004 flying being too easy and ATC needs to be improved
